I was diagnosed with high grade DCIS in Aug 2023 but cardiac and hospital admin issues meant my mastectomy and SLN removal was delayed until Jan this year. Following surgery I had a seroma which was aspirated twice - 900ml each time. Recovery went well but I have been left with a long, lumpy & bumpy scar. I tried massaging it with Bio oil but it did not reduce. My GP referred me to a dermatologist who said it was a keloid scar & prescribed steroid tape. This has reduced the lumpiness a bit but the scar still rubs against my form and is red, inflamed, sore and gets very uncomfortable. Do you have any other advice for me please?
Hi jpl67
Thanks for posting.
Keloid scars are overgrowth of scar tissue. You explain this is causing additional redness, inflammation and soreness which does sound uncomfortable.
The dermatologist is best placed to suggest whether anything else might be helpful and wonder if you are able to get a follow up appointment with them. You may want to connect with other women to see if they have had experience of a keloid scar. If so the surgery section of our forums might be of interest.
