Hi, I was told you can have the tattoo after 6 months following surgery as you have healed skin wise? I am nearly a year post surgery but in 2 minds whether to have it done.

Ive been wanting one for ages I think I’m going to do it. Just worried it was ok with no lymph nodes on that side. Thanks for taking the time the time to respond x

Having a tattoo is fine, lots of people have them on mx scars. As for your lymph node question, I think the best place to check is with your GP or the chemo team. Maybe the breast nurses on here can help?

Hope you are able to have your tattoo. x

I think I have asked a nurse but no response as of yet. I think I’ve done it correctly

Hi @tanya,

Thanks for posting asking about the safety of a mastectomy tattoo.

As you already have some lymphoedema on that side it would be best to check with your treatment team before going ahead with a tattoo. We imagine you have been discharged from them now, but you could try contacting them by phone or email to see what they say.

Perhaps you are under the care of a lymphoedema service, if so, they could also provide information about this. If not, you could ask your GP for a referral.
