I first had a lumpectomy in my right breast12 years ago when I lived in France. I had wonderful treatment including a full node clearance. I had special physio to avoid lymphadema and was lucky. I didn’t have any swelling. 5 weeks ago I found a lump. Living back in England I wasn’t sure what to expect but I needn’t have worried. The system whisked me up and after a series of checks, tests and scans, it was decided that I should have a full mastectomy of my left breast. To my astonishment I only had one night in hospital ayd then went home to be looked after by a wonderful hospital at home service which we are lucky enough to have in this area. The surgeon removed 3 nodes as a precaution but everything was clear.
Apart from only havin g one night in hospital the other shock was the way I am feeling now. It is SOOOOO unfortable, I feel as though I am in a strait jacket. I am in my 70s and I am not at all vain about the way I look but boy I do not like the feeling. I am so glad I found this forum because now I realise that it is fairly normal. I am being diligent with the exercises. I am going to see the oncologist tomorrow but I am not at all certain that I want to have chemo. I have a cruise booked for the 25 October and I am determined to go. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us all.
