Hello, I am new to this forum.
I was diagnosed with DCIS in June. It wasn’t even routine check (I’m 48) but I was invited to participate in a breast cancer research in my area. So when they wanted me to come again to do a further check, I was thinking they want to have more information for their research!
I had lumpectomy in July and also in September but there are still not enough margin and this time is going to be mastectomy.
I am not so worried about the actual surgery (BUT I do worry about the discomfort post surgery…) because I know my surgeon well now and I’m in good care. I am spending most of time ‘sorting out’ about kids, work, house… etc., before the surgery while I’m still mobile. The last 2 surgeries were both day surgery and I was back to normal by the 3rd week and there weren’t much impact on family/work.
People say how positive I look to just getting on with my life. I’m keeping busy to get things done, but to be honest probably I am like this because this ‘major surgery’ idea seem just so unreal.
Probably reality is kicking in since I started to look at things I need to prepare for my hospital stay.
I wonder If there is anyone who is going through a similar phase with me?
Hi Bella Rose
i saw your message a few days ago and thought there must be another lady out there who is undergoing this treatment at the same as you but I was surprised to see that no one has replied. How are you doing? Have you had your surgery yet? If so, I hope that you are over the groggy, early days and on your way to a good recovery. If not, I hope you are managing to keep on an even keel while you wait to go in to hospital.
I had this surgery in mid September and I’ve been communicating with a couple of lovely ladies on the Mastectomy with DIEP in September discussion post. It has been hugely beneficial and gave me that support that you can only get from people in the same boat as you. If you want to join that discussion if you get no take up on this one, please join us.
Wishing you well.
Hi Bella Rose
I noticed your post the other week as well and wanted to wish you well for your surgery. I’m also a few weeks ahead of you. I did much the same as you - batch cooking meals and sorting out the house. Keeping busy definitely kept me going and took the pressure off that I didn’t need to worry about these basic if I didn’t feel up to it after surgery.
Everyone is different pain/discomfort-wise. I took everything I was offered in hospital, but within a few days of being home, I was just taking paracetamol - and pretty quickly even that was only bedtime and first thing in the morning. You do need to take it easy and let your body recover, but this is definitely doable. There have been ups and downs but, looking back, the anticipation was the worst part for me.
I’m on the September thread as well and it has been a fantastic support. Hopefully, you’ve had a look and you’d be welcome to join in.
Sending you you hugs and very best wishes. X?
