Has anyone had a mastectomy with expanders? I’m due to have a double mastectomy with expanders in a couple of weeks. I’ve been told that I have to have radiotherapy after surgery so the surgeon is reluctant to go straight to implants. I’m guessing I’ll have the expanders for 6-12 months before they exchange to let the skin recover from radiotherapy. Just all feels like a very long time until it’ll all be sorted!

I had a single mastectomy over three years ago with a tissue expander inserted as I wasn’t able to have the diep straight away as my bmi was/is still too high!
I had no problem with mine at all until this week so I can recommend having them as you won’t have to have them as long as I have and all being well you’ll be absolutely fine
