matectomy after radiotherapy

Hi all

Does anyone know how soon you can have a mastectomy after having radiotherapy?

Many thanks

Wendy

My Mastectomy was 10 years after radiotherapy so I don’t think my answer of “less than ten years” is any help at all.
Good luck anyway!

Hi Wendy,

I have just had a mastectomy 1 year after radiotherapy. However I think you can have a mastectomy fairly quickly if needed. My thought is based on new treatment that involves mastectomies being carried out and pin point radiotherapy is administered whilst still under anesthetic.

Good luck

Hi cb102

Thank you for you reply, i have had bc in each breast 9 years ago and this year, i finished rt in august but since then have found brca1 gene and i just want to reduce the risk asap. I cant have recon until next year but not sure how soon after finishing rt you can have a mastectomy due to healing ect… and i feel im going mad… am seeing consultant this pm… but because i need an oophorectomy as well and due to cancer of tongue and neck and after effects of rt to that area its difficult to get tube in when they put you to sleep. So they dont want to do anymore ops than necessary. The plan is to do double mast and oopho at same time… !!

I hope your are going on ok.

Wendy

It sounds as if you are having to go through the mill at the moment, sorry to hear this.
I hope you got some reassurence from your onc.
