I have looked on this site for what I have had done and there is not a lot of info so I thought you might like some!
I have just had a lump removed (1.9cm) that was deep and unfeelable, picked up at an early mammograme due to family history. Its a grade 3 HER2+ ER+ and lymph nodes are involved though not known how many yet as just returned from full clearance after SLB was positive.I also had a close margin so got more tissue taken.
However my surgeon is an oncoplastic surgeon and I was told before it all started that the WLE would leave my boob very lopsided due to the location of the tumour (deep on the inner lower quater of left boob)So…He did a beautiful boob job! ok the margin was close so I went back in yesterday for another bit out, and whilst there he remodelled my areola region a bit as he thought it not quite right the first time although it looked fab!..I had my nodes out too as it was in the sentinal one, but hey some compensation is still having a good boob! Now hopefully, please god the bit of margin this time will be ok …it should be as it was a 1mm in one place and he needed a 2mm so has taken 1cm to be on the safe side. After all the treatment is done he will do the otherone to match!
Now as to what is involved…
Google theraputic mammoplasty or mastopexy and images and there are loads of pics available and this is a technique not always offered with difficult to get hold of tumours like mine where due to the fact my boobs are not huge the degree of disfigurement from a normal WLE would be great.
I know we all get to the point of ‘take them both, just get the blasted thing out’ but if better boobs than you started with is a possibility, do ask as its humiliating and horrid enough and to actually be offered something that other people pay good money for for cosmetic reasons for free has to be some little comfort!
