Treehouse, sorry you are missing the Christmas tree fun, it’s pants. Big pants. The full Bridget. And it’s pants for your family too, they want you there. Here are some trees just for you. ???

Morning all. No snow here 4 inches forecast starting tonignt :snowflake: :snowman: Both schools have emailed home bad weather policies so expecting to be off on Monday. Boys are looking forward to a snow day!!

I went out with some girls in the village for a meal last night. Got home 11.30pm, usually in my pjs by 8pm. Good to have a proper catchup, they supported me through chemo. We went out for a meal in between surgery and chemo and this was a celebration of finishing treatment.

Ladies, been to see Paddington 2 today with hubby and son - it was absolutely brilliant - we all thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend.  A real feel good movie.  It put me in the perfect mood for putting up the christmas tree and decs this afternoon - hubby and I, 3 hours later DONE… and I managed to cook a roast chicken dinner at the same time!

Now sitting with my feet up enjoying the twinkles and glitter and the lovely fairy lights and christmas candles.  Got to do my tesco.com shop now though… x

Glad you got out and enjoyed the cinema Jay. Hubby turned up with an hour of visiting time left. I scurryied down the corridor to hug him. He brought loads of my amazon shopping for me to open. I got a picc cover and lots of gifts for the kids. And a couple of treats post surgery.
Not very confident with my night shift nurse. She is an hour and 20 min late with my iv and I won’t get much sleep as the next is due at 2. Don’t want to sleep in case she forgets again.
My day shift lot have been awesome. I hate having new staff that don’t know my case and regime. It is quite high maintenance with the aseptic technique required for the picc. There was one day that I was attached to the line for 10 hours because they were too busy to detach me in between. That may have been the reason it got blocked. So I am watching them like a hawk and a bit bossy now.
The quality nurses don’t mind. In fact they seem to respect my involvement in my treatment and are not offended.
Several young nurses have used me for part of their picc training. It’s surprising how many staff are not allowed to do it!!!

I am a bloody expert by now

Buddyfan that is a fantastic tree how clever you made it. You should start selling you can’t buy anything like that. Me and my sister have looked before at a tree you can put on the wall or even one you can project but have never found.

Treehouse night shift staff I think can be a bit lazy sometimes. How awful that you can’t swiycj off and try and sleep because of worry about the 2am antibiotic slot. I also hadn’t realised that not all nurses can use the picc.

It’s snowing ?:snowflake:

Yep :snowman: has arrived with me also.

Snowing here too.:snowflake::snowflake:??
All my chemo nurses could use the picc line, but whenever I ended up in A&E and random wards with suspected infections, I would either have to wait ages for the right nurse to come along, or else have them use a vein instead, which was frustrating, and usually painful too!
After my surgery I had a fancy vacuum pump dressing called a Pico dressing, no relation to picc. It turned out that most nurses had never even heard of it. So when it went wrong it took me 24 hours to persuade anyone that it had actually failed and wasn’t supposed to keep buzzing like that, and then three hours in A&E for them to find anyone who knew how to replace the dressing.
Plus, they gave me totally wrong info about showering with the Pico thing on, luckily I wasn’t happy about taking a battery operated gadget into the shower and managed to find the manufacturer’s patient leaflet online, which told you how to switch it off, detach the electrical part, have your shower, and switch it back on afterwards.
It worked brilliantly for me, but I do think if they are going to use these things they need to spread the knowledge a bit wider!

Tatyana that is worrying. It’s like the surgeon has access to a new piece of kit but no one else is ready for the upgrade. My Picc doesn’t have a manual valve??? Nurses here are confused as they keep trying to close it. But there is nothing to close. Different trusts use different kit.
Good on you for looking up on line. ?

I think that vaccume dressing will start getting more popular yours was the first one I’d ever heard of I then looked it up and it does sound good.
After my surgery I had pain relief balls. So I had two round balls full of some kind of anacetic that had tubes going directly under my skin and in at the surgery sites and slowly released the medication over 3 days then they come out. It’s to help prevent sideaffects from taking to many oral painkillers and treats just the oporated area. They were good I wasn’t really in any pain but I had anxiety over having the wires pulled out.

Wolfee, those pain balls sound a great idea. It must be hard for hospital staff to keep up with all the new stuff, but some of it is great!

We are always hearing about some new wonder drug, but we never hear about the scientists and technicians who are working away to bring us small improvements and clever little gadgets that can make a huge difference to us right here and now. A round of applause for the backroom boys and girls! ???

Totally agree tatyana ???
My brother is a research microbiology for a pharmaceutical company. He is always growing something in the lab and working on new drugs. He insists I tell him everything I am prescribed. Even noticed I should be on a different antibiotics before my drs.
Doesn’t get paid enough!!
