May 2017 chemo starters

Thanks ladies for the dances for my Dad - he’ll be thrilled when I tell him you’re all dancing for him to get better!!

Treehouse, Domino’s,yum!
Andi, welcome home! I swapped sides of the bed with hubby after my first surgery in 2002 and never swapped back!

Jay a full house is my favourite. Not on the menu anymore but my local knows what it is still ?.
Hope your other half managed to get your Bridget pants Andi . These men are awesome ?. I have lost track of the emergency missions my hubby has done for me. Bra extenders from the pound shop stick in my mind.

Morning all.
Tatyana how was wicked? ?‍♀️I know wolfee went to see it before Christmas ? .
Mai how are you feeling now you are out the other side?
Andi hope you had a comfortable night in your own bed ? x x

Boiler broken ? eek!

Treehouse hope you get the boiler repaired ASAP that’s all you need ???mai glad the meal went well darling ??? andi hope hubby got your Bridget Jones ok yesterday ???and you got a decent nights sleep at home. Wolfee hope you had great time at wicked, after tatyana posted the clip it’s made me want to go and see it too. ???:sparkles::sparkles::sparkles::sparkles:shi xx

Andi, glad to see you are home, it’s lovely to be in your own bed even if it is more difficult to get in and out of. You start to appreciate how good the hospital beds are as you can move the back up and down.

I got some medium control knickers from Primark, only £5. They were really good and they do them in black, skin colour and white. I started off with 2 pairs but got some more as I got fed up washing them. I have only just stopped wearing them 24/7 , 8 weeks post op so they need to be comfortable. It is a great relief to finally be free of supportive underwear! I has M&S post surgery bras and a great Shock  Absorber sports bra. Was advised to have back opening bras as they’re more supportive. Am now using the sports bra at the gym so worth the money.

It is frustrating not being able to do anything but enjoy the rest and it sounds like your family are keen to help you. After all you’ve been through with such a major op you don’t want to jeopardise anything by trying to do too much. I know what you mean about getting in an out of the chairs, it’s such an effort. As the day wore on I often used to watch television lying on the bed as sitting for too long was uncomfortable on the scar.

This phase will be over very soon and you’ll see progress every day so rest up and before you know it you’ll be back in the kitchen baking biscotti!

Hi everyone, hope you are all feeling ok.

Had a busy weekend with school homework, eldest son doing D of E prep work all day at School on Sat and a visit from some old friends today. School uniforms and my work clothes all sorted as 3 x 4hr mornings this week. Youngest son is going on a sleepover at The Deep on Thurs night with school, already packed as so excited

So sleep update time. I have chnaged to lighter duvet, got rid of all the pillows and listen to the sleep meditation each night. Always fall asleep before it ends. Sleeping for 6 hours before waking and then going back to sleep. Feeling a lot more like normal. Less aches and pains, and alot more energy. I have noticed that night sweats and hot flushes have reduced alot to only a few a week, or more if I eat chocolate or drink coffee, must be the cafffine.

Getting caught up on Victoria on Netflix, my current binge viewing…

 Heather

Andi, it’s great to hear you really appreciating being at home. And eating proper food, yes!! Enjoy, and don’t expect too much of yourself too soon, it’s a long haul! Bit like rowing the Atlantic, really.only you don’t get to go on the telly and boast about it!

Everyone-- Wicked was…well, Wicked! A great feelgood show, nothing too demanding but lots of wit and great songs, and amazing costumes and visuals. Just what I needed! We spent the night in a hotel, which was just as well because although it’s theoretically possible to get home the same day, I was cream-crackered by the end of the show. I thought my energy level was pretty good, but a train, tube, and shortish walks and a longish day just wore me out! Still, it was a great thing to do.

Tatyana really pleased you had a wicked time at wicked ???sorry I thought it was wolfee who was going. ???:sparkles::sparkles:shi xx

Heather, glad you are sleeping better, and feeling better accordingly. I’m wondering what everyone thinks about the relationship between fatigue and sleep. I’m still suffering from fatigue more than I’d wish, I seem to have days with plenty of energy but then get really tired really quickly. I know it may seem obvious, but it’s only just occurred to me that it may be partly a sleep issue. I get off to sleep easily but wake up umpteen times per night, and sometimes lie awake for a while, and usually wake up early in the morning. So maybe I’m just not getting enough!
Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I was falling asleep easily then waking 1am everynight, struggling to go back to sleep or waking several times until 5am and that was it for the night. I think the fatigue does come from lack of sleep, a bit like when you have a new born and up for feeds, leaving me feeling like a zombie.

Sleep is starting to be an issue here too. The fact that I lie poker straight like a soldier doesn’t help. I try to roll on my side to spoon or for comfort but I soon regret it as my ribs or sternum ache ?.
I also think my tablets are affecting my sleep. I get twitchy and uncomfortable. Have gone downstairs for hot milk ? more than once so than I am sleepy when I get back to bed and husband is asleep so not irritating me. ( I missed him so much while I was in hospital but now I need my space)

When I had surgery and chemo me and husband often slept in different beds. We still do sometimes. It was a bit weird but he is a bad snorer and I am a light sleeper. People think we are weird not always being in the same bed but it works for us. I enjoy the space and not having to fight over the duvet. His snoring is so loud I am sure the neighbours can hear it in the summer with the wi dows open!

So if you tell British Gas that someone in the house is ill and needs heating ( my wife just had heart surgery)
Then they come before 6pm on the same day!!!
Didn’t even pull the cancer card.
?

Hi ladies just catching up on posts Andi so pleased you are home on the other side of your surgery enjoying being with your family ? Mai so pleased to hear that you had a great time for your birthday im absolutely shattered its seems to be strangely abnormal though i have never experienced anything like the tiredness, under my breast in the fold is black and peeling off same in axilla which is also painful and tight rest of breast is red as i expected going to ring unit tomorrow for advice Treehouse i hope your heating is sorted Jay hoe yoy getting on after rads? Misyangel hope you’re doing well too!!
A question for you all i did have some pre existing arthritis in a couple of joints but feeling like its everywhere finding it difficult x i don’t want to be a paranoid mesd thinking its mets but its never been this bad i think the chemo may leave a lasting effect on the body!!
Tatanya sounds like you had a wicked time at wicked! I love a show think i need one to cheer me up abit
Going to start in a healthy diet and try my hand at yoga although im not very flexible, have signed up fir a where now course in February through Maggies think it will help me move on a bit as i feel like it has consumed me a little im finding it hard to adjust to not having any treatment to go to!!! How weird is that!!!
Hoping Trisha is ok not heard in a while and Heather hows your hair doing bet yiu have a style now i can’t wait for that my eyebrows though have made a return and im over the moon so have my lashes xx

Andi i know what you mean about the hospital bed they are sooo comfy!! I still wake alot have done since chemo! I think the diet thing is an idea im not taking any hormone meds it seems to have started on the abraxane which i was given after my reactions to T but atm i feel like my whole body is reactive its a difficult one for me as i have some osteoarthritis but i also have psoriasis which then gave me some inflammatory problems a couple of years ago, i was given methotrexate which is a chemo drug!! A very mild dose but hated it so i stopped taking it, the chemo had the same effect all arthritis seemed to disappear and my psoriasis but it too is starting to come back, think i might mention it to my onc as im def not going to have the drugs again maybe diet and yoga might do it for me, how are you feeling post op Andi i hope you are taking it easy eating well and sleeping comfortably, how are your girls doing now bless them they have been through alot you all so deserve some good quality family time together ?

I wonder if she’s having some time out, but then again i don’t know if shes mentioned it xx

Mishy, my hair is doing great, not really a style yet, need to grow a bit more before I go to hairdressers. My hair cut looks more like a choice than courtesy of the NHS! Will try and get a photo this week.
