Is that a wig? You look so young or maybe I’m just old (58?).
Yes it is a wig! It looks so natural but a bit annoying as it tangles all the time. Im 29! You arent old at all!
Im glad you had a a good first day back x
@snoop182 & @glitteryrainbow hope work is going well for you both and your enjoying the return but are remembering to look after yourselves too! You look really good @glitteryrainbow, how are you finding wearing your wig with your hair regrowth? I find my wig moves around a lot more and I end up fidgeting with it, I’m forever looking for quiet corners to discreetly tug it down
@nicole3 I’ve not experienced itching, just pins and needles initially but then I probably haven’t had enough chemo yet. I think you can ask the nurses on here if you’re concerned (assuming you haven’t already!)
Finally, thought I’d update you all on my latest unbelievable instalment; so my wee port wound still hasn’t completely healed, but they thought it might be good enough to resume chemo so went to get bloods taken from the port on Monday, I’ve never seen a port being used before so was somewhat appalled when she basically jabbed me with what felt like a brooch pin no wonder they didn’t show me beforehand I think!! Anyway, she says she missed, is terribly sorry but will have to do it again… and again and then she gets another nurse to try who also fails! They then decide that the port I’ve been waiting 5 weeks to use and was supposed to simplify my life has somehow flipped over inside my chest!! I burst out laughing when they tell me because of course it has, this is me! I’ve to return to the X-ray department on Friday for them to try to manually manipulate it (which just sounds painful mostly) So, no chemo this week either now to top things off I also missed my patch testing for all these allergies, after all the faffing around in oncology, which now further delays my biopsy, and last but not least, the oncologist tells me yesterday that plan b is to insert a cannula into a deep vein by ultrasound the day before chemo, give me a 3 weekly dose and then remove the line to repeat the procedure twice more and their initial concerns about how tough I might find a 3 weekly regime is now outweighed by their need to get chemo in me am sincerely hoping it doesn’t come down to this, and I feel I’m due some good luck keep your fingers crossed for me ladies
O, @kiltie I’m so sorry - I can’t believe what you’re having to go through. I have a port and for me it has made chemo so much more straight forward but that sounds horrendous. I hope Friday goes ok although I can’t imagine how they would manipulate it feeling mine. I will be thinking of you and fingers crossed you don’t need plan b.
It’s great to hear from those of you returning to work and finding some semblance of normality again. I had my final chemo on Monday, it was strange to feel excited going to the hospital to get the last dose in me. Now I’m waiting for the side effects to end - having lots of tingling in my feet and toes but not so much fingers @nicole3 I’ve not had itchy hands but sometimes they feel really dry and hand cream doesn’t seem to touch it.
I’ve got my initial appointment with the radiotherapy department next week. I’m due to have 10 sessions starting in December so should be done by Christmas but slightly concerned that the tiredness will hit me when I could be joining in with the festivities. I’ve picked up my tamoxifen prescription which I start taking 4 weeks after chemo ended, the oncologist did warn me hot flushes and night sweats will probably get worse and I might get more emotional and short tempered - o the joys!
Wishing you all the strength needed to face what lies ahead x
Hi Ladies, just catching up on all your messages.Thank you all❤️so had my magseed put in last week ready for the operation.I had my pre assessment Tues all gd.So just waiting for my surgeon to come back off leave next week then hopefully will have a date. @glitteryrainbow congratulations on your new home❤️time to make some lovely memories.Gd luck for your radiotherapy not long now for you to end treatment😁hope work is going okay too. @kiltie aw hun you have had a tough ride with delays and now your port.Sending you a big cwtch, hope they get it all flipped for you❤️ @rosa1 Glad youre okay, honestly a superwoman with a newborn, toddler and chemo❤️ @dragonk congratulations on your last chemo❤️ @snoop182 hope your first day back at work is okay, remember its easy for them to forget what you have been through.Make sure you take it easy and remind them not to fill your calender up❤️. @nicole3 hope you get some relief from the itching.Perhaps the gp or your oncologist can prescribe an antihistamine and cream❤️ @tori123 amazing news on your clear margins❤️ xx
Good news (finally) ladies, all that finger crossing worked!! Not only has my port not flipped but they also removed a surgical knot that was preventing the wound from healing. It has now started to heal nicely and I made them draw an X on me so oncology know where to aim!! It was a tad painful though so my question is to @dragonk and @rosa1 as I know you have ports, and anyone else who may have had one - does it get less painful the more you use them or does it always remain sore?
Also, congratulations @dragonk on finishing chemo, I know it’s only part of the treatment but I think it still feels significant to be able move on from it! I hope the radio goes smoothly for you and you’re able to relax into Christmas
@budsbails2301 so good to hear from you and appreciate the cwtch How are you feeling about the operation? I hope you get a date soon as sometimes all the waiting can be the hardest part
Hugs to all x
@kiltie i find the port not that painful at all. I found putting the cannula in more painful. They use a needle to get into the port and from that they put the chemo through and take the bloods using the same needle. Sometimes it’s a bit sore after when I move my arm but fairly mild. When they put the needle in it’s not that painful for me. They can give you some numbing cream if it’s painful for you but I never needed it.
Well done on the final chemo @dragonk - I started having hot sweats after my third chemo and my periods stopped after the first chemo. These then tailed off once I stopped chemo but I have found they have come back again on the tamoxifen. ive also had trouble sleeping as the sweats wake me up and I’m needing to pee more at night. I haven’t felt very moody thankfully.
@kiltie sounds like you’re having a right time of it but hopefully that’s the end of it now and you can move forward to chemo again soon.
Thanks for getting back to me @rosa1 and apologies I did mean the cannula being inserted. I did find it very painful when they inserted it on Friday, but he said that it was probably because the area was so inflamed. So hoping now that it’s settled down it might not be so sore when they use it, but might ask about the cream you mention. Hope all is going well for you otherwise
@snoop182 yes hoping things can progress now as for night sweats I’ve found mine come and go and it’s not weather dependent or anything it’s very strange, do you find yours come and go, or are they pretty constant?
I had mine fitted on Tuesday and by Thursday it was still very bruised so a cannula was used. The week after the swelling went down and it was ok to use then.
Hi, I had my port fitted and the next day I had my bloods taken and then my chemo. I had sedation when it was fitted so knew nothing about it. It certainly did its job for the seven months of chemo and the nurses in the chemo unit all accessed it easily and I say this as a person who hates needles. I have to say though that I could always feel it at the top of my chest. It never moved but always felt uncomfortable possibly because I did not weigh very much and lost loads of weight during my chemo. Suffice to say, I would still choose it over a pic line or cannula. I was very glad though when it was removed. Make sure you ask for sedation when it is removed and then you will not feel anything. Wishing you and all the ladies on here good luck. Take care, there is light at the end of the tunnel says she 5 years down the line.

It’s pretty constant im finding it quite challenging as it really effects my sleep quality and I’ve always been a good sleeper. My local cancer charity is running some living well with menopause after cancer workshops soon so I think I’ll book onto one of those for some tips.
Hello everyone!
I promise I havnt forgotten about you! Life has just been very busy! Absolutely loving being back at work but getting very overwhelmed with the work load as they are expecting a lot from me in the 3 hours that i am working. So i booked a meeting in with HR .
Hair is growing EVERYWHERE. I have a very fluffy face . @kiltie regarding the wig, i find the wig cap helps with the slipping.
I start radio on Tuesday, 10 days and then im done! We also move into our new house on Friday!
I did have to have a ultrasound on my pelvis today because i went to the doctors with period type pains. I broke down in the doctors and said that im so concerned that my cancer has spread, so he sent me for an ultrasound. I got the all clear, so must just be my periods coming back (when that will happen i have no idea)
I hope everyone is okay!
Sending lots of love x
