May 2025 chemo starters

The mouth thing is so weird feels like the texture of it is changing. Food and drink don’t taste or feel the same.

Anyone else got acidy guts like acid reflux but feels much lower down. Spoke to a nurse about it today they’ve said to take omeprozole for longer.

Once I spoke to an oncologist in A&E and she said to have just gavisgon

I have the weird mouth taste and dry lips, they feel really sore and cracked.
My spots are getting worse too, asked nurse yesterday and all lovely side effects.
Cold capped again and wasn’t too bad.
Hope everyone ok, just all feels never ending at the moment xx

I’m using Cicaplast lip balm from La Roche-posay brand. I found that other lip balms would only moisturise for like 5 min and then my lips would be even drier, but this seems to have longer lasting results. Highly recommend.

Larger Boots shops sell it. It’s about £10 for a small tube, but you only need a little.

Glad your chemo went well. The side effects may be a bit tough for you, but remember each round means you’re closer to the finish line :).

Hi Ladies, so I found this on another group and thought some of you might find it useful. Paris company for headscarves.
Indira de Paris - Easy turban - Women's turbans – Indira de paris

Mine just arrived and it looks exactly as per videos on this site. It has a band, so doesn’t slide off like a normal scarf would do. It sits just right and has some volume on the sides so doesn’t make the face look weirdly shaped. I’m totally keeping it for dirty hair days even when I don’t have cancer.

Promise I’m not here to just advertise different products

I love these! @sim2 Which style did you get? I like the Cuban ones but they are showing a lot of hair but that might be how they’ve tied it I guess x

Hey I went for a Parisian as I thought that would suit my head shape better. I think cubane ones are very similar but without a little triangle at the front,
It looks the nicest if you do show a bit of hair at the front, but there is enough scarf to pull it more forward if you wanted to hide the hairline. Totally wearing this after my next chemo when I come out of the hospital with all hair lathered in conditioner:)

I got some omeprazole in the end as the gaviscon and rennie just weren’t working! My tongue is definitely not happy - feels like when you burn it on coffee, but all over. I am still surprised by my ups and downs. Spent yesterday really tearful and today zombied, but I feel like there’s nothing horrendous wrong. Just…everything?! Drama queen honestly.

It’s hard to feel like you are completely out of control of your body. You are allowed to bring all the drama you want!

I do hope omeprazole works for you and you’ll feel better soon!

Well, i braced myself and shaved my head yesterday. Im not cold capping and my hair went wierd the last week- like straw then started shedding - a lot! I was worrying so much about being bald so while everyone was out i used my husbands beard shaver to buzz cut my head! Turns out it a relief - i dont like bring bsld but its nowhere near as horrid as i thought it woukd be. I then went to tesco with a jersey chemo baseball cap on and no one stared so im not that o teresting obviously, lol. Just home now from chemo #2 so expect I’ll be feeling yuck from sunday to Thursday.

@fancyhooves you aren’t being a drama queen at all! Hope you are okay. Keep chatting in here if it helps.

I’ve just finished round 2 of EC. I actually feel better than I did with round 1. The nurse gave me the drip slower today and told me to suck on sweets while I was getting it. Feel a bit tired so early night on the cards but so far so good. 2/7 done :muscle:

My doctor has me taking omeprazol daily, 20 minutes prior to breakfast, and so far, so good. I also have added kefir and kombucha to my diet, not daily but every other day. Hope that it helps!

Feeling a bit down today. I guess I was secretly hoping that my hair won’t fall, but today, massive clumps started coming off. I feel I lost about 1/3 of my hair… By the end of the week I may be pretty bold.
I guess that’s why nurses are quite skeptical about cold capping…

The hair that’s still left doesn’t feel like mine anymore. It’s so weird.

Sorry you’re feeling low @sim2. Losing your hair is such an emotional thing -I’m not there yet but dreading it. Struggling to get to sleep tonight as second chemo tomorrow. But my husband helped cheer me up by taking me to the seaside this weekend. Trying to make the most of the “better” days. Sending you virtual hugs

Hi @sim2

I am from April starters and wanted to say how much I sympathise with your post.

I am having EC, third round this Friday and I am cold capping. 14 days after the first one my hair fell out in what felt like massive clumps. It was literally the worst bit of this journey so far. I stuck with the second cold cap (they put a theatre cap over a thin bit at the back) and it wasn’t too bad.

Last Saturday having had hair continue to fall out, I shaved it all on a number 4! It was a bit shocking but I INSTANTLY felt better. No distressing combing with it all coming out, no continuous hoovering etc.

The best thing of all is that when I can see the coverage I have left I still have pretty much a full head of hair do the cold cap has worked to a good extent (so far anyway). It has given me the impetus to continue if I can this Friday. Photos below of new hair. I also feel that if it does now fall out the difference will be a lot less dramatic.

Just my story but honestly I feel so much better - wanted to give you a bit of hope.

Thank you for sharing @hoggie. This is inspiring. And waw, it must have been a massive change, but you look so good in this haircut!

I too feel that there is still much hair left to fall. But tidying whatever is left (I’ve got a short bob) is a bit traumatic as it’s so dry, but t I don’t have the courage to shave it yet. Maybe in a week… I do intend to continue cold capping regardless though.

Of all things I think I can deal with being bold-ish, but if my eyebrows fall, that will be very very difficult. And now I can’t stop thinking about my eyebrows potentially falling…

We must just keep reminding ourselves that it’s all temporary, and a good excuse to try out all the hairstyles we would have never tried otherwise
