Hi…I’m new to the group and I’m starting chemo on Wednesday…I got diagnosed on 19th February and the waiting has been torture. I am having EC & T …six sessions …I am feeling very apprehensive about chemo and side effects…also whole cold capping…might just not bother …any advice gratefully received…thank you xx

Hi Grannypops7

Welcome to the forum, not that any of us want to be here but nevertheless here we are. It is an horrendous time that’s for sure, it takes some getting your head around, seems so much to learn but don’t worry we’re all like that.

I had my first EC chemo 11 days ago now and to be honest I feel I have been very lucky with side effects apart from a bit of indigestion, tiredness (for the first 3-4 days) and lower back ache I haven’t had anything else.

Don’t be surprised if you come away from your first chemo with some injections, they are to boost your white blood cells to help you fight off infection - mine are called Zarzio. You might not have them but thought i’d give you the heads up because alot of us do and as I say I was a bit shocked when they were handed to me, I wasn’t aware I would be having them. I injected them myself (some peoples husbands help with theirs). I had chemo on the friday and the first injection was on the following tuesday for 5 days (I think people have different amounts).

I myself didn’t cold cap, to be honest I didn’t want to subject my body to anymore trauma than I had to but there are many women who use it and for some it has worked very well and for others not so well. It’s a personal decision but there are plenty of threads which you can look at to help give you a balanced view of it to help you decide.

It’s such a rollercoaster time for us not always easy to explain how you feel to someone who hasn’t been through the experience but there is lots of support on here.
