Dodo, I’ve signed up for a study for the Herceptin where it’s given into the thigh muscle instead of a vein. I kind of feel a bit freaked out by the thought of any tube staying in my body for the duration, but if you read the messages from ladies who do have one they all say it’s the best thing they’ve done. And as Penny said earlier, those who do have the tube can use both hands during infusions so can be more free to do what they want.
Cycle 3 -day1
Well that’s no 3 down and one to go feeling good at the moment. Does it make anyone else ravenous? I could eat a horse and chase its jockey lol

Hi ladies and well done to those of you who have had third dose this week! Lets hope for minimal SE 's.
i have just had a brief spell, 15 hours, in hospital…started feeling peculiar yesterday afternoon and by 9pm I rang for advice. Told to go to a and e where they put me on antibiotics, through a canula and fluids as I was dehydrated as well. Diagnosed an infection but they admit they do not know the actual cause! My bloods were ok, neutro level was over 4! Yay. Admitted to the oncology ward at quarter to three this morning, own room! More antibiotics at 6am and constant Iv fluids until 1pm. Then retested and pronounced fit for discharge. Have a course of antibiotics to take. Strange not to know the cause! I will sleep well tonight as so tired now! Only managed a few minutes during the night!
the upside of this is that the antibiotics have relieved my constipation! Hahaha, every cloud…
the onc came to see me before discharge and said I need to be more careful days 7 to 14. No more popping in to work for a cuppa then…
sarah, I am sorry to hear about your boss being such a numpty and hope you get some good advice.
take care

Jo - Nothing wrong with Mullerice, I just don’t like it very much! Janey -Advantages of being 60; no more prescription charges ever! Bus pass and railcard for when you’re up to public transport again! Suddenly being the oldest woman in my workplace was quite an event. Makes you feel you have an image to keep up. My headscarf did not go down well at work last week. I think the guys I were working with are secularists and anti-Hijab at heart and they found it grated on their sensibilities. Nothing was said, just traces of uneasiness. We have a Rasta member of staff and people are a bit funny about his headgear too, so I don’t take it personally. I think they are all waiting for me to fall off my perch! Which I expect to do as the treatment goes on.
Rachel - Sorry to hear that you have been in hospital - thank goodness it was for a fairly short time though. Can’t believe you went into work on the low week! I barely leave the house between days 5 and 10. Once my injections have kicked in I feel more confident.
Rachel, glad you’re home and ok, I’ve also been going to work etc days after day 7, just really carrying on as normal once I feel a bit better! Think I’ve maybe been lucky to avoid anything since my bloods have been so low both times, hmmm, maybe need to do a bit less this time? i just get so bored being at home! Xxxx
Marie, hi ya, glad you feel ok so far. don’t know when rads are yet. i have a meeting on 18th to talk about it i have also been eating for england and i agree with marie, i do loads of stuff too. i have become addicted to jigsaws, i do knitting and scrapbooking. having second thoughts about going back to uni this Sept maybe just take this year out for me and do all the things i like doing.
Rachel So glad your ok, i had a scare too this morning sore throat, headache, hot and cold, but temp ok. husband rang nurse who said just keep eye on temp. she also rang me back earlier tonight to see how i was. feel ok after a nap.
Take care all xx

Hi Rachel glad you’re out! If I had been you I think I would have gone into work. Definitely. But it is a hard one to call. We’ve got an outing we booked to go on months ago and it’s on day 11 so I may have to find someone to go instead of me. This would be a hardship as it’s to Bletchley Park, which is a place my Dad used to visit during the war (all those clever women!!!) .
On the other hand I think I would prefer not to go than to wind up on the ward. I’ve finished my kntting and my other projects ( Marie! )at the moment are turning shirt collars, scrapbooking and sorting out the family collection of photos. I would be struggling to do any of those in hospital! Or one-handed with drip up. FEC-T 2/6 day 3 and I woke up at 3am starving. That’s a good sign, isn’t it? Just waiting for the Metawhatsit to kick in so I can have my banana crispies.
I keep busy by doing all the lesson planning and writing the end of year reports for my class on my laptop at home, plus short walks and subscription to LoveFilm Instant. Also doing jigsaws and batch cooking for the freezer. I haven’t dared venture into school at all yet, it is so full of potential infections and I know the kids would want to hug me. It is their sports day today (assuming rain holds off) but I don’t think I should go. It is a shame as I really want to see them all again - perhaps really late in the cycle would be ok.
Welcome SuziWong -sorry you need to be here.
Haven’t heard from lots of people lately - Namaste is another. Come on guys we want to know how you are getting on.
Hi everyone,
FEC 3/6 day2. Penny you’re an early bird and banana crispies sound nice. I’m staying home from work today as I did last round, brains not really working, think maybe I was trying to do too much to start off with, but I’m so determined to try and stay as normal as possible, plus I had only been in my job 10 months and didn’t want to forget everything I had learned.
SE, so far I have had a bit of oral thrush, but that went quite quick with medicine and what I think is chemo blush (spots on my face and neck from about day 11 to 14 (Aveeno cream seems to helping that). Of course there’s the tiredness, hair loss, but I’m still getting stubble on my legs which seems strange. Oh and always want to burst into tears when anyone is nice to me. The other day me and OH were in town, my picc line bandage was showing and I was wearing a bandana, anyway a lovely lady who had very short grey hair came up to me and said “I’ve just been through what you’re going through, so don’t worry it gets better and you will be fine” had to hold back the tears, it was like sisters in solidarity. I’m off again, watery eyes!!
Right going to get up now, do a small amount of tidying up, then rest.
Hope you all have a good weekend. Alex.
Rachel, glad you’re out again. Home bed is always so much better.
Penny, don’t get me started on bus passes! I qualify for free prescriptions, senior railcard, but I was born 10 days too late to get my bus pass (or pension) until 63!!! Ten days!!! I have mentioned this growing grudge to my mother …
Lexi, doing too much - you and me both. I was so good on cycle one, got overconfident on cycle two, and paid for it in terms of flattening exhaustion. Take note fellow Moonbeams - be selfish about your needs for rest.
Morning moonbeams,
