May Moonbeams

Suziwong - welcome! Glad to have you aboard. I notice your cancer and mine sound similar tho in my case the doctors have decided to save the op til later. Good luck with those SE’s. Have you got wristbands for car sickness? They really do help me, and this cycle it was out with the needle, on with the elastic!
Marie - speaking of elastic have you got wristbands for the journey? I found I was getting carsick just driving to Tesco’s which is only 8 minutes! Hope you catch up on your sleep soon- don’t push yourself too hard this w/e!

Lexi- Good for you to stay home and put your feet up (or do a little dusting, whatever) They’ve taken me off the rota at work pending an occupational health assessment! It’s just hit them that I have days when going to do hospital or Police nick visits are just too d**n dangerous. Only problem is I don’t get paid as I’m a casual worker. just hoping that we can spin this OH thing out til I really need to go off sick and I can start saving for (GASP!) Christmas! BTW someone left some Aveeno cream behind after a visit and I’ve been using it…it’s lovely and without it I think my face would have fallen off. It’s not cheap though is it? I would never have thought to buy it but now I’ll be tempted.

Janey - your poor Mum. We never get it right. I tied my legs together so I wouldn’t have my second D on Christmas night and then because the delivery suite clock stopped I thought for one emotional moment I had after all…The midwife set me straight, it was 12:45am! And now she’s 34 she thinks she would have liked to have her birhday on Christmas anyhow…Seriously though all these stumbling blocks they have put into place for us is horrible. I love joining in with all the hells grannies when I go to town hopping on and off buses not having to pay. You will too when you come to it.

Finished knitting my little chemo cap (while watching Springwatch- every time the jackdaws attacked the babies I dropped stitches though). It’s lovely and soft - and it also helps me by tidying up all the loose hairs and all I have to do is tap it on the window sill to release the offending hairs for some passing songbirds to line their nest with. I’ll post a picture of us in a minute.

Just rediscovered a childhood taste. I made up an orange jelly (so quick, 100ml water, jelly block in whole, microwave 1 minute and stir), used the juice (not syrup) from tin of mandarin oranges plus water to make up the pint, poured it over the mandarins, set it. Ate it. Well, a small bowl of it!

Felt I was at a kid’s party! Nice and fresh tasting.

Sorry about mix of metric and imperial …

Mills, hope you don’t mind but mentioned your situation to my mum and this was her response…

Very naughty! You can sort of understand where the boss is coming from, but it is totally outrageous.

Generally it is very bad policy to resign - unless it is to escape being dismissed for misconduct of some kind. She would lose her statutory sick pay - which is related to her employment (and any other sick pay she may be entitled to - and although her current job has only been for a year she may have previous employment history in education which counts as contimuous with her present employment for the purposes of contractual sick pay). She would have to claim some kind of unemployment benefit, and I have to confess I am not sure how her inability to work currently (and therefore her inability to obtain fresh employment) would affect this. However, if you voluntarily leave a job you normally have to wait 6 weeks before you can claim anything - I don’t think this has been changed recently, and if it had been it would hardly have been for the better.

The CAB could give her up-to-date advice on benefits in a variety of circumstances.

Is she a union member? Refusal to renew her contract under the circumstances as set out in her email would be discrimination on the grounds of disabilty. Cancer automatically counts as a disability from the point of diagnosis. She should sit tight and ignore the implied threats - but should also consult a union rep if she is a member with a view to getting the boss to understand the position better.

Hope this helps. x

Jane - I love mandarin jelly - fancy some of that myself.

Marie - have fun this weekend.

FEC T 3/6 Day 3.

I have just spent the afternoon sitting in the sun with 3 friends from work eating lovely things. Very nice. Veins a playing up a bit this week though for the first time. And the bleeding has started again. :frowning: Otherwise things ok so far.

Jo- wow your Mum’s comments have really freshened up my thinking! It’s helped me think about how things have not changed since I did my last training (as usually, caring people in caring professions do not often get cared for) and I’m off to the CAB when I’ve seen the GP .

Jane- I remember mandarin jelly from my childhood only with a little cointreau with the juice and grated chocolate on top…My Mum studied under a French Chef for a while! I think I’ll wait for the strawberries to come in (when oh when) and have some strawb juice in jelly.

Hi Penny

I haven’t heard of the wristbands - what are they ? I might check them out for future use.
I’ve not been too bad with sickness - had Aprepitant, Dexamethasone, Ondansetron for first three days and Domperidone as a back up which I’ve only taken for two days. I went on the bus for 1.5 hours and felt very queasy but I’m okay driving or being passenger in a car.
Have a great weekend

Suziwong - I have heartburn too today. Same time each cycle. Horrible. :frowning:

Hi Dodo14
Which cycle are you on and have you found anything to settle your heartburn ?
First cycle I thought it was a sore, lumpy throat and just drank loads of milk to calm it down. This cycle milk, Bisodol, Gaviscon nor Omeprazole want to work Everything I seem to eat or drink is making it worse.

Suzi I am on cycle 3. I have just managed it by eating reduced amounts and lots of fibre and liquids in the days before it comes on. Drinking milk helps temporarily. I have gaviscon in case it gets too bad. Apparently the omdanestron tablets are responsible. It isn’t nice but is manageable with a sensible approach to diet.

Has anyone had the experience of starting to sneeze and having a flash of nausea? I’ve decided (thinking back to Human Biology) it must be something to do with the vagus reflex! I also have it when I have hiccups which seem to me more common since I’ve had chemo- maybe that’s the reflex as well? Just wondering. I found last cycle it passed off rather quickly and I’m amused to find it’s back again.

Jo- I think we have probably cracked it- I found myself eating lots of raw veg salads and drinking loads of water and juice in the hot weather and so far a lot easier to handle the symptoms. I can’t face much milk and eggs are still in the future. Tomorrow we have a scrummy looking chicken meal my daughter’s making for us and I am just starting to feel tempted!

Dodo and suzi i started taking lansoprazol (think thats the right spelling) before all this for acid reflux and still take it and have never had it since. Ask your doctor for it, so far it has been great.
Didn’t get to Norwich today, woke up too late but ventured to the super market for shopping, may go tmoz.
Sorry to hear this cycle is bad for you barbara, here’s hoping you feel better soon

Hi moonies, I’m homeeee !!!
had a good weekend very queasy this time and burpy!
Quite a bit emotional today funny how it affects you…
Penny, I don’t have a problem travelling in vehicles with feeling icky…
Marie

Hi Moonbeams, this is definitely getting harder. Like Barbara round three has hit me quite hard. FEC 3/6 day 4. Brains a bit mushy, quite emotional, feel a tad nauseous, but I think it’s subsiding. Just need lots of sleep. i really didn’t want to go into the hospital for round three last Thursday. This really is a battle.
Stay strong ladies. Good night

Hello Moonbeams, I have finally returned to normal and had a lovely day out at the Three Counties Show, on my feet all day and walked miles. I have so missed being normal.

Second session this coming Thursday and I just don’t want to be made ill again, it took me 10 days to even begin to feel better and another 6 to get back to normal.
