ME/CFS and POTS and surgery

Hello,

I haven’t been well for a number of years with tachycardia & fatigue. A few years ago I was given Orthostatic Hypotension as a diagnosis following a tilt table test, although now my blood pressure often seems to rise on standing/walking. An echocardiogram in December has shown Grade 1 Diastolic Dysfunction which has probably been caused by years of tachycardia, and could now be contributing to my fatigue. Underlying all of this I think I likely have low blood volume.

I’ve now been booked in for a mastectomy next Thursday and I’m worrying about how my body is going to react to the general anaesthetic. So, my question is does anyone else have experience of similar underlying conditions & has had surgery? Do you have any tips? I’ve not seen an anaesthetist yet, presumably I will on the day - is this too late to ask for extra fluids?

If you are worried about these things may be worth ringing your breast care nurse to discuss in advance of your op and get some re-assurance maybe they could liaise with the anaesthetist ? have you had a pre-op assessment with nurse where you have general health check ECG etc  ? You will def get to see the anaesthetist on the day to discuss any worries . Best of luck with your op ,
