So my gp is keen that I get the merina coil changed to the copper coil as my bc was oestrogen positive. I have spoke to both oncologist and breast surgeon and neither of them are overly concerned and both said the research was pretty week. They said I should change to copper coil when I’m next due to get it changed which is in two years. Has anyone got any advice on this?
May be worth asking this in the Ask the Nurses section - they normally have good up to date advice about things like this .forum.breastcancercare.org.uk/t5/Questions-about-anything-else/bd-p/anythingelse
I questioned this too as it secretes progesterone, and not oestrogen, but all the oncologists I spoke to (I’m a Dr so could pull in some contacts) said to take it out immediately (and, indeed, it is also an absolute contraindication on current UK contraception guidelines, and the usage leaflet for the Mirena also states it should not be used). I wasn’t happy with this plan (I’ve loved no periods!), but on the information I gained I went ahead and had it removed.
It’s a personal choice though, obviously - as are all the treatment options…
Hi, my bc is oestrogen and progesterone positive and the first thing they told me to do was get the mirena coil removed. It seems that women are being given various advice? I really didn’t want mine removed. I’ve been really hormonal since it was removed last month ?.
Good luck xxx
