Message for DilysP, Lucy, Lollie

Dear All

How is everyone? Pauline? You feeling less sick? Lollie - are you ok. And Lucy - you are finished and I so hope you are picking up? Dahlia - you are so strong I just hope I go the same way!. And Candy - how are you? The hair loss. This is silly as I knew it would happen but oh goodness… Round here we have loads of Asian women and I want to pounce on them and ask for that expertise with a head scarf. Bet they would help too! Would that not showing your hair was normal, eh?

Anyway I am a bit low today but it will be fine in the end.

Much love to you all

Hi Dilys

I think we all have our down days and its not surprising really with everything that we are going through. Although I used the cold cap and didn’t lose my hair completely, I remember when it was thinning and seemed to be falling out rapidly! I thought every time I washed it that it would all wash off in the shower and it is a upsetting thought isn’t it. You will get used to your new situation and I bet your wig looks really good. I really wish my real hair looked as nice as my wig! Just keep the thought of the SpiceGirls or the Zimmers in your mind, that will cheer you up

I am fine thanks and quite busy this week but mainly just out socialising and out for lunch. I am making the most of it before going back to work.

I hope everyone else is ok and you are feeling much better now Pauline.

Love to all

Love Lollie x

Dear Dahlia, Lollie and everyone

Sleepless rainy night as you can see but you have cheered me up a bit! Endless wind is quite funny actually Dahlia. What an image. And Lollie I know just what you mean about standing in the shower thinking it is all coming out. Now my hair isn’t brilliant in the first place but I still prefer it attached to my head. I’ll manage. Not in my nature to be down for long, and it really is the hair thing at the moment. Once it has gone and I have my turbans etc from the US website I’ll be ok again. And you are of course right Lollie - wig is much nicer than my own hair!

Whinge, moan! Hope you are all ok. How goes it Pauline? Lucy and Candy - you both feeling better?

Better get back to bed and try to sleep!

Lots of love and thanks for being there

Hi Ladies

Oh my God what time was you on here Dilys??? I know what you mean about not being able to sleep it must be the weather, humid atmosphere…I have cat naps during the night at the moment…I also have a sore throat and feels like swollen neck glands sore to swallow going to the GP this morning,no raised temperature though which seems weird to me… I start to think they must be fed up of me at the GP and dread calling not that I have been there a lot but I guess you know what I mean…just when you think it is finished then something else comes up…I think my partner must have given it to me as although he doesnt have it himself he said there are a few people at work with it, great I’m not even there as we work together and I am getting there ills…

oh well better go to call the doc’s

Love
Lucy

Morning to all you ladies,

I started the tablets on Wednesday evening, so far so good. I only feel slightly sick, not enough for the anti-sick meds though. My stomache was a little upset this morning, i think this is one of the side effects though, but i can live with that.

I hope you are all doing ok.
Dilys once the hair is out you will feel better, i was most upset while it was actually in the process of coming out.

Lucy i hope your sore throat soon clears up you have had enough to cope with lately with out this on top. I don’t think the weather helps much, hot one minute then raining the next.
I hope you are feeling better today Pauline and Lollie enjoy your lunch out.

Well i must get shifting and do some housework and ironing oh joy!!!

Love to all

Candy.

Dear All

Sorry about the throat Lucy and the ironing Candy. And so glad the tablets are gong ok for you. Just to report that this morning I got my sleep cap, turban and head wrap from the US website, plus a dinky little false fringe, so I am now feelng a lot safer. Also a dear friend sent me a surprise turban which came in the same post. So I have cheered up and am facng the inevitable with more equanimity now. Candy - how long do you reckon it took to come right out? Sorry, bit obsessed with it at the moment!

Isn’t it a foul day again? Hardly seems to have got light here yet!

Hope Lollie, Pauline and Dahlia are all ok.

Much love

Dahlia is getting very soggy!!!

Morning all, doesn’t this weather get on your pip??? I know we should be focused on health and all that but really where is summer?!!

Dilys - the hair thing is horrid and mine started to depart my scalp about 20 days after first chemo and then washing it after that was a crying nightmare, more and more each time. I wore head squares all summer as wigs (paid £200 for a lovely one) were too hot - no problem there right now with THIS weather. It carried on coming out, despite the cold cap, but started to grow before the end of chemo so 3 months later I went out “naked” and moussed with a new hairdo, short and curly after 35 years of having it long. I have to say the short style is liberating and people tell me it takes years off me so every cloud and all that.

I can hear thunder in the distance, no wonder pussycat is curled up in HIS chair, I should join him!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend whatever the weather, wherever you are and whatever you are doing. I’ll be doing some research on cream teas, just for statistical purposes!

D

Hi Ladies

Back from the doctor armed with antibiotics and had to have a damn emergency blood test at the hospital where I have chemo, stirred up a hornets nest there I think, but that’s another story… 2 attempts only this morning for the vampires and that is good going sometimes it takes about 5 tries in various places…Got soaking wet and been driving through puddles that looked about 3ft deep, what a nightmare and they say now this could be here for the next 2 months…I think we should all join Dahlia’s cat in the chair at that rate…where is Pauline again??? I hope that she is ok…I am so glad Candy that you ae feeling better with the chemo you are having now…glad that you are enjoying your social time Lollie that is what life is all about…you realise that once you have had this **** oh wow yummy cream teas, we went to cornwall last year on hols and had clotted cream teas they were lovely …what a lovely thought to end on

enjoy your weekend all I think we deserve it…thinking about going to bingo tomorrow and out for a pub lunch on sunday sore throat permitting that is…

Love to you all as always

Hello Dilys,

My hair started to come out, slowly at first, about two weeks after the first chemo, by the time i had my second chemo, which was two weeks later it was starting to come out in hand fulls. Just before my next chemo i got my OH to shave what was left down to a number 3. I have sparse spikey bits all over my head with a few bald patches spread about. I was told that now i am on the tablets it should start to grow back in the next few weeks, fingers crossed. I was lucky in that i didnot lose my lashes or eyebrows and just thin out in the other regions! I hope this has helped

Candy.

Dear All

You are such a lovely bunch! Know what you mean about the weather. We lurked in Tesco for hours with it drumming on the roof and came out into a very puddle filled drive home. Sun out again now, of course. So glad I am not commuting as half the tube stations seem to have closed. Thanks for all the hair advice. I think mine is going to be close clipped tomorrow as it is driving me completely nuts today. Can’t touch it without getting a fist full of hair. Yuk! Bring on the wig and the turbans. I am going to save hours not blow drying it every morning. Yours sounds just like mine Candy - I am two weeks and a day now from the first chemo, and mine is very fine in any case.

Lucy - I need to know what you did to stir up a hornet’s nest this morning?!

Yes indeed - we are all here except Pauline. Hope you are ok Pauline?

Lots of love to all

Hi lovely ladies

So sorry, I turn my back and all of a sudden everyone is here and I miss them!!

Have been catching up on some work (has to be done when you are self employed!). And am also having an ongoing dispute with
a seller on ebay! You know I never used to speak up but all of a sudden there seems to be a different me!! Nothing too serious but
at least I am putting my point of view for once in my life!!

I am fine still, just having trouble sleeping due to a sore throat and nasty cough which always comes out when you lay down! I should have joined
you Dilys on here.

I see you have the sore throat too Lucy, I guess its this lovely summer with bugs and viruses.
Dilys you mentioned the fringe thing do you velcro it into hats? I was wondering about one of them myself, let me know your thoughts please.

So lovely to hear you are all fairly good and enoy the weekend everyone.

lots of love

Dear All

Welcome bacK Pauline. So glad you are working rather than poorly. I am fine now. I went for a quick glass of wine and have come home and chopped my hair really short. It feels fantastic! It was driving me nuts. So my weedy advice Pauline is sooner rather than later if it happens to you. And it suddenly struck me that if it (chemo) is zapping quick growing cells then it may be getting any other cancer cells. I wish I had done this sooner, but there you go. My husband has yet to come home and see it of course. But anyway I am pleased. It is really quite liberating in its way.

Love to all

Dear Pauline

PS will let you know about the fringe when I try it for real. Yes you do velcro it in to hats, turbans or whatever. But the posing session this morning went well…

Dearest Dilys

I am so glad you feel better now with your hair chopped off, and hope your husband approves. I am glad you have said you wished you had done it
before because in the back of my mind I had thought as soon as it starts coming out I will go really short, and you have convinced me now it will be best.
So far mine appears to be firmly attached to my head still, but every time I pick up the brush I expect the worst.

I live with a rail track at the bottom of my garden and the first train has just gone past since this morning. The track leads to Reading where the station is
closed due to the flooding. Normally there’s about 4 an hour. Those poor people who are trying to get home in these floods.

I laughed the other day about your comment on your husband hearing you!! It must be lovely to have him back and not have to repeat yourself over and over
again!! Perhaps he could talk mine into getting a hearing aid!

Have a wonderful weekend - not too much wine!!!

All my love
Paulinexxxxxx

Dearest Pauline

So lovely to hear from you. My husband’s new aids are great. He now turns down the radio in the car and actually heard the cat snoring today. It is wonderful. And I expect you will do what I did and hang on to hair as long as you can. But today was a step too far and I feel great now it has gone. It comes on quite suddenly and you won’t quite believe it until it becomes disgusting!

Love you my dear Pauline

Hallo all

Where are you all? Everyone ok? I have had my first bald weekend. Turban yesterday and wig today. It is more comfortable to be bald to be honest, but can’t scre everyone else. But that is just me. Where are you all? Hope all is well? I was greatly humbled today as my best friend died seven years ago from ovarian cancer. I have of course been friends with her husband ever since. But I have the awful feeling he is re-living the chemo and every ghastly thing that happened through me now. I just hope it helps him a bit to talk about Helen.

Love to all

Dear All

I bet you were beginning to think you were on your own Dilys! Very little activity here at the weekend!

Unfortunately I have been quite poorly over the weekend. I decided to have my grandsons to stay on Friday evening, something they used to do regularly before I had this problem. Well Friday night I was up half the night coughing and with a very sore throat.I phoned the hospital on Saturday but they seemed little worried unless my temperature went up.

I have been swallowing strepsils and cough mixture by the gallon. It seems to calm down through the day and as soon as I hit the pillow its off. Think I may go to my GP tomorrow. I am worried now that I will either not get my next chemo on Tuesday week or that if it’s not cleared up it will flare up again.

Oh and just for an extra moan, my hair is starting to fall out!!

That’s enough of my woes how is everyone else? Sorry to hear about your friend Dilys, but hopefully as you say, what you are going through will help him to talk about Helen.

Weather miserable here again, but at least we are not underwater like so many poor people very close by.

lots of love
Pauline

Hi Pauline!

Lovely to hear from you (and from Dahlia too though I think that may have been just to me!). So sorry you are feeling poorly. They nag you so much about infection that it can make you quite paranoid, can’t it? And sorry about the hair. It is a right nuisance but I am sure that like me you will get to the point where it is a relief to let it go! It is so disgusting finding it all over the place the whole time. At least the hair on my legs has also gone so no more shaving for a while. Eyebrows and lashes still hangng on in there for the moment. The turban a friend sent me is just so comfortable I have just ordered a couple more. They aren’t cheap at £13.95 each but they are great. Have a look at www.patra.com They are the last thng under women - hats and scarves. Wore the wig for the first time yesterday which probably looked better than it felt. It will take me a while to trust that it will stay on my head!

Raining again outside but thankfully no floods in East London! I am gearing up for the oncologist on Wednesday and then the second chemo on Thursday. Trying not to read threads that say the second is worse than the first!

Much love to all

Dearest Dilys

I must say the hair thing is already driving me mad, like you say it gets everywhere. I am one of those people that can’t stand hairs, particularly in the plug hole!!
My hair is (or was) very thick so there’s an awful lot of it to come out!! I think it will be sooner rather than later for the chop!

Thanks for the website I will have a look later. I hope you get used to the wig, I am sure it must be strange thinking it might come off! I guess that’s another of those paranoid things, it probably would take a force 9 gale to move it!!

Glad you have no floods, although I see on the television they are now worried about the Thames at Thames Ditton, but that’s the other side to you.

Wasn’t that an excellent F1 race yesterday? I can’t believe how brave Lewis Hamilton was to get in his car again only to aqua plane off again! That would definitely have been the finish of me!!

I don’t know how the private message service works, does it go to your email or do you still access it from this page? Also what has happened to the profiles that you used to be able to read about people, is it me I can’t seem to find them anymore?

You know I will be with you on Wednesday and particularly for the chemo on Thursday. I think you are better away from some of the posts on here!

All my love
Pauline

Hi Dilys & Pauline

I am glad that you are both ok - I think everyone had disapeared over the weekend…I hope they havnt been flooded out as I’m not sure where they all live, its terrible I am glad I live in a quite safe area well I hope I do…we do have a tiny river not far but dont think it would reach us…Pauline with the cough, it is probably what is termed as chemo cough, apparently it goes with FEC probably why they we not too concerned are your glands swollen like mine were??? you could still get it checked out with the GP…when I first got it I got in a right state as I thought that it had spread to my lungs…but then they said it was what was termed as chemo cough…it comes and goes I have it at the moment…

If you try not to touch your eyebrows very much they seem to stay in place but just thin out for some reason, I just have to faintly draw mine in and they still look real, once you get to your 4th or 5th chemo ladies your hair should start to grow back and once you finish you will really see it coming through mine is 5mm all over already and I am just 11 days post chemo and my eyelashes are already growing back with a vengeance so don’t despair…hopefully by the time I finish rads I will be able to go back to work without the wig and with eyelashes…will keep you posted…this was my main worry that they wouldnt grow back, thankfully it was just a worry nothing more…

Best wishes for Wednesday and Thursday Dilys just take the chemo as it comes at least you and Pauline have only 3 of that **** FEC and that is the worst thing ever in my experience I had 6 of the damn things so please try to bear with it… It does build up in your system…

Love to you
Lucy
