Hi Karen

Hiya Ju and Kaz

Firstly have a great holiday Kaz and enjoying showing em off!!

Had pre op yesterday on ward 104 - they were lovely - had bloods, heart and lungs checked and they also screen for mrsa - swaps from nose and another part which was interesting ! tho was able to do other part myself!

Will initially be on ward 105 on mobday - which is pre op and day ward - then if all ok after op will be moved to 107.

Not sure if Kaz said but parking at the hospital is horrendous - much worse than shresbury/telford - there is a lot of building work going on - the place is huge - very easy to find - but took us ages to get a parking space. The attendants there are really good tho and gave us a note to put in windscreen to allow us to park in doctors space! The whole thing took about an hour - with all the questions etc. I cant get over how nice they all were - explaining everything - no rushing etc - I was so nervous just going for pre op have no idea how will be on monday!

I am on afternoon list for monday which is why don’t have to be there until 11.00 - partners etc are not generally allowed to wait with you until theatre - unless you go and sit with them in the day room after you have seen doc and anaesthatist - they do seem a little strict but nice all the same.

Apparently if clear of mrsa you are put in a clean bay? if you are a carrier it all still goes ahead but you are put in another bit i guess and apparently given creams etc - guess is a good idea - have never had anything like it before but maybe will be common everywhere soon enough.

The week has flown cant believe is thurs already - havent sorted a lot out for mon as yet - but guess as usual will be last min on sun night!

Hopefully see you mext week when you come in for pre op - visiting is 2-4 in afternoon and 6-8 in evening - if not dont woryy may see you on the mon - when you come in if not out by ten tho hope to be out by weekend. If am out before you go in will let you know how everything has gone.

Take care and if I dont see you hope your week next week goes as quick as mine has this week - all the best for the op - see you soon

Tina xx

Hi Tina,

I was on ward 107 after my op and the staff were absolutely lovely, I was on the first bed on the left as you go in. It sounds as if your pre-op was very thorough, I wasn’t checked for mrsa.

I know exactly how you are feeling right now and I am so excited for you.

I had to be there for 7.30 am as I was first on the list for surgery, so Phil (my partner) had to leave virtually straight away and they are very strict on that.

All the very best for Monday, I’m sure you’ll be fine.

All the best for you too Ju, I’ll be thinking of you both big style.

Love and hugs
Karen

Hiya Tina,

Unfortunately I wont see you on the Monday (day before my op) cos I dont need to be in the hospital until 7.30am Tuesday morning, perhaps Im first on the list like Karen was, will find out more at my pre-op. I have just read somewhere that the op is going to take 8.5 hours - if it does Im glad its me having the op and not someone else in my family, I would have to wait around not knowing for that long.

Are you having implant put in? If so do you know what type? I am, but no one has discussed with me the type of implant and asked me if I have a preference. I dont really feel like I know much about the whole process to be honest, unfortunately Im one of those annoying people who have to know everything about it - one of the pitfalls of working for the NHS for so long - and the fact that Im nosy! Hopefully they will fill me in on Wednesday. Shall definitely come and see you, my pre-op is at 1pm so finished in time for visiting hours. Which Surgeon are you under?

Hope everything goes well for you on Monday, Im sure it will.

Hiya Ju

am under Mr Jaffe. Yes am having implant - have no idea of type - he did show me one at last appointment - it was white and sort of bumpy on outside - it should last without replavcement apparently.

They couldnt tell me where i was on list on pre op - they will tell me when i get there tomorrow - if am first for afternoon then will go down at 1.15. I have been told mine should be 3-4 hours just glad will be asleep! My mum is going to take me then go home when have gone dwn as i doubt i will be up to seeing anyonew in the eveing when i come round - at a guess if am first wont be back on ward before about 6 - it took us about an hour to get there from here - we didnt go via the m6 tho.

Starting to feel extremely nervous now - cant sleep hence on here - gona go and try again in a min - just want to get there - know when am having it done and wake up with it all over.
I shhould be on ward 107 on weds (edited by moderator in order to maintain your anonyminity) would doubt there will be another Tina anyway!!

Hope pre-op goes ok - they were lovely staff.

Cya soon

Take care
