Mets to Spinal Column/Tissue?

Mets to Spinal Column/Tissue?

Mets to Spinal Column/Tissue? Hi Ladies,

Any of you have any experience of mets to spinal tissue, Onc says that Mums spinal compression is caused by tumour in spinal tissue rather than the bone mets they have found - apparently this is unusual.

Mum is worried about spread to Brain due to it being close is this likely?

Also should we expect onc to check for spread everywhere or do we just have to wait for symptoms?

Is it just on TV they tell you how long you have to live?

What are you honest thoughts?

Sorry know there are alot of Q’s in one post, am being Mum’s fingers while shes in Hosi,

Thanks again…

Best wishes

Lou

Hi Lou,

I was going to suggest the same as Belinda - it’s also sometimes called intrathecal chemotherapy. A google search or cancer backup should yield more info.

If the question re. prognosis is asked you will usually get a reply. The thing to remember is they work on averages and out of date data so they tend to be a bit vague.

Sorry I can’t answer all your questions

Love Twinkle xoxo

Hi Lou,

My wife has the same problem in her spine, she has lost over 3 inches in height.

From my understanding it is not relevant where the cancer is, it is still low risk of it going to the brain. It is usually lungs and liver.

My wife has been on Taxotere ( 11 sessions) mixed with Xeloda and her spine and skeletal mets were vastly improved. She is now on Xeloda only and that is just about holding the liver mets up.

Hang on in there

Hiya Terry Thanks for the info…how long has your wife been dx with spinal mets?

Does she have any other symptoms?

Thanks

Lou

Hi Lou,

She has been diagnosed since May 2006. They are in her spine, hips knees and shoulders.

Taxotere kept them down really well.

Yes she has liver mets which is the really bad one, also small spots in her lungs, but Xeloda is just about keeping the brakes on these.

Symptom wise, just a debilitating tiredness as she sleeps or at least stays in bed 18 hours a day now.

Take care

just wanted to say what a lovely daughter you seem and your mum must be so proud of you.thinking of you love sharonx
