Hi everyone, my first post. I am waiting for my radiotherapy appointment, almost four weeks post surgery. I had bilateral WLE’s but only need radiotherapy on right side. I suffer from chronic migraine which means I get up to nine each month. I am worried about having to miss some sessions. Does anyone know what would happen - would they just treat me on days I am well enough to attend? This is really worrying me as migraine is generally not considered serious but mine really is life altering. Thanks for any advice.
I asked about this as I get bouts of vertigo .They said that the total amount of radiation given over the treatments was the main thing - you miss weekends and Bank Holidays if they fall within your rads anyway so there always gaps - they said not to get too anxious about this .Let your team know in advance if possible though .I get migraines which cause me to loose my sight - always happen at the most inconvenient times
I asked if I became too ill to attend for a week or so if I got a lung infection and was told they would still want to do radiation treatment. I ask but if I was really too ill to attend ? I was told a disruption to treatment would mean it wouldn’t be as effective.
It could just be in my situation, or just that particular rad consultants view I don’t know. Maybe the nurses on the helpline would know.
Thanks for your replies ladies. I now have my planning appointment for Friday so I will be sure to talk to the staff and see what they suggest. Sadly it would be nothing short of a miracle for me to be migraine free for three weeks. I’ll try and get late afternoon appointments to give me the best chance of still attending. It’s not the treatment itself that’s the problem it’s the getting from my bed to theirs and back again!
