“minor” reconstruction! Hi everyone

I orginally posted over at the ‘benign’ forum, but someone suggested I drop by here to ask your advice.

I had a lumpectomy two weeks ago, for a lesion that ended up being benign, so lots of drama over nothing really. Now that the swelling has gone down I’ve realised just how much tissue was removed, (55mm x 45mm according to the path report) any my breasts are noticeably different. I’m only as size 32a anyhow, so I’m not going to naturally pad out again! I haven’t spoken to my doc yet, but was wanting some ideas on whether a partial recon might be possible. I feel a bit silly asking, since so many of you have had mastectomies, but I would love to hear the experiences of anyone who’s been in a similar situation.

Yes it is possible Thank god you don’t have cancer!

In answer to your question, yes it is possible. You can have a partial implant, or as a BC friend once described it to me ’ a gob- stopper to fill out the hole.’

Hi Larissa
Before my WLE I was told that i could have a temporary partial prosthesis to fill out a bra cup if needed, and if I wanted a partial reconstruction i could request a referral to plastics no question at all.
Turned out I had a mastectomy so a little different now on the recon front, but had it ended with the wle i would still have wanted as close to a matching pair as they could make for me, it’s really not silly to want your body back.

Recon after WLE I had a WLE and for 2 years had a partial prothesis, in Jan this year I had a Lat Dorsi recon, but because I am quite big and didn’t want silicon implant am having reduction on other side.
Lat dorsi is looking good, although still settling down - well worth it for me.

Good luck with whichever option you choose.

Just wanted to say thanks for your advice and feedback - I’ve found it really helpful to hear about people’s experiences in these forums. I’ll make an appointment and see what they say.
