Mixed results today

Ugh…so got results of my 3rd surgery today. Thankfully the margins were finally clear! That was the good news. In last surgery they found more dcis and a third tumour of 7mm. So i had 3 tumours of 2mm, 17mm and 7mm, plus positive nodes and loads of dcis. Is this now called multifocal?

Then she said the radiologist in the MDT meeting had asked for results of the other area and my surgeon said ‘what area?’ So back i went for a 3d mammogram and now another wait for another suspicious area.

Surgeon has at least now refered me to oncology and expects my chemo to start in 4 to 5 weeks. Ambitious estimate I expect.

Feel really crap.

Oh mate, I am so sorry. You’ve had an absolutely crap time and I can only imagine how fed up you must be with it all. At least oncology are about to be involved. All I can say is, this time next year this will all be a bad dream. Allow yourself a bit of down time then go again.

@bluesatsuma what a crap day … totally get why you are totally and utterly fed up with all of this! Why can’t they find it all at the beginning!!!

But … deep breath… you’re now getting to meet the oncologist and your pathway will soon be mapped out for you. Then you can breathe a bit. No matter how many lumps and tumours they have found, chemo will kick it up the arse!!! Remember that …

Yes, this is all a massive shit show but you will get through it and 2024 will be a horrible year in your past … one that will make you appreciate life more. Big hugs :two_hearts:

Thanks for the sympathy…i do feel sorry for myself, though I know many are having a far worse time so I feel bad for feeling like this. The nurse is going to ring me about the new mystery area of suspicion when radiologist has looked at it and invite me in for a biopsy if needed. Hope you’re well @Tigress x

Thanks @donna_51. Wise words. The surgeon was cross in the MDT meeting as she just cuts out what she’s directed to and she didn’t know about this new area. Hopefully its nothing. But yes at least i can still see the oncologist. Hope youre doing well @donna_51 x

Hi @bluesatsuma

Firstly, brilliant news on getting clear margins at last!!

Secondly, I’m so sorry you have had to go through more tests today :worried: Let’s hope it’s nothing to worry about.

Good news on the booking for the Oncologist though!! I met with my Oncologist today and feel in very safe hands. She was so lovely and explained everything in my language. I feel so much better for meeting her and hope you feel the same when you meet with yours.

Big hugs :sparkling_heart: xx

Never apologise for how you’re feeling. It doesn’t matter what others are going through, you’ve been put through a lot more than many others yourself, me included. Sometimes you do have to wonder why they’re not as joined up as you’d expect but I honestly would put it down to weight of cases they’re dealing with. I really hope that things can move forward a bit more briskly now :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:.

Hi @Tigress. Thank you…you are right. I hope things move quickly now! Xxx

Hi @bluesatsuma

She said I should have my planning scan within 7 days and then start radiotherapy within 2-4 weeks after my planning scan.

I will let you know when I hear anything.

I really hope you hear soon xx

Hello @bluesatsuma

So sorry to read that you have been put through the mill again.
Must have been so frustrating for you to have had to psyc yourself up for today (having already been delayed) to then have to leave with yet more questions and uncertainty. Did you ever have a breast mri?

I hope you felt slightly reassured that you were being referred onto oncology in 4/5 weeks.
I saw mine for the first time yesterday, he was really good and reassuring.
He assured me that once you are out of the surgeon’s hands things move quickly.
I have a staging scan in 2 weeks but he told me they wont wait for that, they are just going to move forwards with chemo which i appreciated, and it gives me confidence in that team. Hopefully you will feel the same once you get to see them too.

Thinking of you and hope that you can get through the next week or so till they can get you in for a biopsy xx

Hi @wrenny. Glad youve finally seen the oncologist. My surgeon hoped my appointment would be in 2 weeks but if I want transferring to local hospital, it would be longer. So ive opted to stay at current hospital and she said i can transfer to local after initial appointment.

Hoping that my additional mammogram wll be checked today or tomorrow and I can go back before friday if i need a biopsy. I must be riddled with cancer… they should have done masectomy back in january. Regardless though, chemo will go ahead before any other surgery now.

How are you feeling about the chemo Wrenny? Did you get to change to the nearer hospital? Xxx

Ah ok!!! Thats good news that they can sort you out there. Hopefully once you are in the sysyem it will be a straightforward switch to the local hospital. I have to say the oncologist was very good, very easy to talk to and reassuring. It was at the local hospital yes.
I’m glad they are going to get you started on chemo and sort out surgery later.
It must be so awful for you, not knowing the situation and extent still. Having a mastectomy first would have saved all of this. I think having multi focal/multi centric is quite common though, the nodal count and grade matter. Does make ot any less of a nightmare!! But thankfully you know where you stand in that respect.
Are you finding that work is a good distraction? X

Hi Bluesatsuma
I was thinking of you and your results. Great about clear margins but the other stuff is just cr*p. Sometimes it feels as though every single time you go to your next appointment, there’s more stuff to deal with. I’m really hoping that given your really difficult pathway so far, the oncology bit is comparatively easy. A friend who is a pathologist says more than one cancer in the breast is not uncommon.
Lots of hugs to you

Hi @daffodil1 and @wrenny. Thank you. It is reassuring to know that having more than one tumour isnt uncommon. I think I was thinking ‘woah…there’s more?’ Bring on the chemo…terrified but I know you lovely ladies in my phone will get me through. Xxx

Hi @bluesatsuma - I was thinking you and your results yesterday. How rubbish that it was so confused a picture and they found more areas. Can totally understand why you feel crap. However once you have a chemo plan that should take good care of it and kick it out for good! Awful but also good that the new areas are found at least - from my lymph nodes appearing to be clear, then a few cancerous ones found, then a suspicious 18mm node detected it seems to change every visit, (they have all been hopefully ‘cleared’ as of last week) so I’m half dreading the op biopsy results! Once you have your plan things will hopefully move forward for you and you’ll be closer to a cancer free new you. Treat yourself in the meantime :two_hearts:

Hi @bluesatsuma,

I’m so sorry it was a mixed bag of news - feeling confused or guilty on how to feel can nearly be worse than things being clearly black or white - take all the time you need to process, you have the whole BCN team and forum behind you

Clear margins Whoop so pleased for you other

Other news is so frustrating but at least someone in the MDT spoke up!

Its a rollercoaster and shitstorm at times but you’re doing
everything including moaning which is 100% ok

A good whinge, cry or scream works wonders

I did all 3 so many times last year

Make sure you take someone with you to the oncology chat - they tell you loads and its hard not to feel overwhelmed

If you need hints and tips for when chemo starts i wrote a whole list with other contributions from other chemo starters last May or ask again

Biggest top i got for cold capping was to put a tena lady on my forehead for the drips and brain freeze…the chemo unit thought that was genius!!

Huge hugs lovely

you’re into the next chapter so reward yourself with a large one!

Take care x

@bluesatsuma sending you a bug hug for what I can imagine has been a very stressful and frustrating day.

So pleased that you finally have clear margins and that you have an oncology meeting soon.

Fingers crossed that they sort out the other are of suspicion super fast.

Chin up, you are doing amazingly. Helen x

Thank you @Alice_BCN. It is so frustrating about the confusion with the area that should have been looked at 7 months ago. Hoping it comes back as nothing. Thanks for your supportive message x
