Monitoring for cancer metastasis

Hi Everyone

I had Lobular Breast Cancer, stage 3 and am currently on Letrozole for ten years and Abemaciclib for 2 years. I’ve only been offered a yearly mammogram and refused MRI scans, so am concerned as to how I’ll know if I have a recurrence. Has anyone found anywhere in the U.K. that will conduct tumour marker tests like they do in the U.S. to check if cancer cells are present for stage 3 patients? Thank you for any help offered.

Hi Valerie,

I am actually concerned about this as well and the only potential solution I have found is to try and join the TRAK-ER trial as that will include the tumour marker test as a part of it. There are, however, criteria to be met so may not be applicable to everyone. Here is the link that gives more info and criteria - Who can take part in TRAK-ER? | The Royal Marsden

Also, it looks like the Royal Marsden offers the ctDNA test privately. They mention breast cancer further down on the page - might be worth enquiring about - Marsden360 | The Royal Marsden

Thank you. Only just seen but I’ll have a look. I think you have to be referred to that trial by your oncologist. Usually you can’t propose yourself directly to The Royal Marsden. Sadly, my hospital have already said they can’t be asked to refer people for any trials. I think it depends on the hospital. Mine doesn’t seem to be involved in contributing to research projects for Breast Cancer, but I know others at different hospitals have been invited to participate.
