Moringa and mushrooms extract

Hello, post estrogen receptive cancer patient, now going through the menopause due to tamoxifen injection, I was wondering whether moringa or mushrooms gummies would be ok to take! Not sure if any of the natural ingredients would cause a spike in estrogen levels! I’m a little paranoid about taking stuff but need assistance with the symptoms and struggling.

Hi Littlebear,

Thank you for your post.

We hear from many people who are experiencing menopausal symptoms because of tamoxifen which comes in tablet form.

You don’t mention which menopausal symptoms you are experiencing, but you may find our information on managing different menopausal symptoms helpful. We would suggest you speak to your breast care nurse or treatment team about how you are feeling as they can support you in managing your symptoms. This could include additional medication, complimentary therapies, changing the brand of tamoxifen, in some cases taking a break and other options.

You may find the following Facebook session on Hormone therapy side effects useful to watch.

Many people ask about vitamins, supplements and herbal medicines, as they want to do as much as possible to be healthy following a diagnosis of breast cancer or to help manage the side effects from treatments such as tamoxifen. There is often the belief that these products are safe as they are considered natural.

However, most don’t have to comply with the same regulations or rigorous testing that conventional medicines do. For many products there is a lack of research to support their use, and some can interfere with conventional medicines including cancer treatments.

You can search this American website, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, for information about Moringa. However, it’s important to speak to your breast care nurse, treatment team, GP, or a pharmacist before taking any supplements or gummies. They will be able to advise if Moringa or Mushroom gummies may spike oestrogen levels.
