mouth pain

how long does this last between treatment

Hi Joanne,

My experience has been that the sore mouth lasts upto about day 10 - 12. It normally starts at around day 4 but this has been on the tax. It wasn’t too bad on the epi but everyone is different. I have also had antibiotics each time on the tax because of the sore mouth.

hope this helps

I had about 3 bad days and then it started to gradually go. Probably just over a week in all, but the Difflam mouthwash was brilliant and not too nasty either. I was told to rinse after every meal with it and that did the trick. I got a sore throat with that stage too which also disappeared with the mouthwash. On one of the early days I thought my front teeth were going to fall out! Were you given mouthwash? I fnot get Difflam or others like corsodyl
Don’t forget lollies or ice poles. Hope it improves soon

Hi Joanne
My mouth started hurting about a week after my first cycle. It did develop into a ulcer. I managed the soreness with difflam and like Lily, worked really well. Also using Corsodyl and Bonjela. One good tip what was given to me was to use Aloe Vera toothepaste, from Holland and Barrett not as harsh as normal toothpaste. Try and keep using stuff even after the mouth is better, keeps soreness at a minimum.
Ice pops are fantastic… i now am addictive to them:-)
All the best and hope things improve

Hi joanne

my mouth was my worst side effect, like others would recommend difflam, less harsh than corsodyl. You can also get it in a spray that I used all the time. If it gets too much tell your doc / nurse whoever cos you can have other stuff if it’s thrush [nistatin, fluconazol]. I found it got a bit worse with each round of chemo unfortunately but hopefully you will keep it stable.
