Hi,
I’m struggling at the moment. I was diagnosed on Friday with cancer after a mammogram and ultrasound didn’t show anything, the core biopsy showed grade 2.
I had an MRI yesterday and get the results late this afternoon. I have hardly slept and struggling with all kinds of thoughts.
I have been poorly since August and was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome but am now thinking what if it’s all related?
I’m 41 with two young children and trying to appear normal for them but it’s so hard.
Hi Louise.
Most of us fear the worst when we’re first diagnosed. We lose all sense of perspective. I joined this forum when I was diagnosed in April because I needed to share how terrified I was that it had spread. I’m 43. As well as finding bc in my boob it was also in my lymph nodes. I was convinced every single ache and pain was cancer. It turns out it wasn’t. Waiting for my ct results was horrendous. My bc nurse told me that most of us fear the worst but that for the vast majority of us it hasn’t spread. Once you have your results you’ll feel so much better. Hang in there and try to think positively (easier said than done I know). Bc is very treatable.
In the meantime stay away from dr google and even on these forums only read the threads that are relevant to you. Sending you a hug. Xxx
Hi Louise. So sorry that you’ve found yourself here, but it really is a friendly place to be when you find yourself in our situation. Did they mention the type of cancer you had? It can come in various forms, one of which is called invasive lobular cancer. It just means the cancer has started in the lobules of the breast rather than the ducts (the most common type) The reason I’m saying this is because lobular is a bit sneaky and can, on a very rare occasion, be in the other breast too. For this reason, they like all lobular ladies to undergo MRI before treatment starts. I had lobular cancer and am almost 4 years post diagnosis and continue to do well, and that’s after chemo as well as radiation treatment. Wishing all the best in whatever treatment plan you embark upon. Take care, Ann X X
Thank you both for your comments. I will try my best to stop googling!
They didn’t tell me much apart from they were surprised to find it and that it reacts to hormones? It is close to my nipple I think as that’s where they took the biopsy and where I noticed the changes.
I hope you are both doing well xx
Hi Louise. Its sounds as though you’re oestrogen positive like me. I was told that’s a very good thing. It’s the most common and very treatable. My cancer also started around the nipple. I’m also a grade 2. Invasive ductal cancer and hr2 negative. Again, the most common I believe. All consultants are different and some request mri and ct scans and some don’t. If you’ve expressed other worries about aches, pains, fatigue etc then it may be that your bc team have decided to give you an MRI for your reassurance as much as anything else. That’s why my ct scan was booked initially. X
Hi. Sounds very similar to me. I was diagnosed in march with grade 2 oestrogen positive her 2 negative bc. I am 42. I also had an mri, I was told it is sometimes hard in younger women to get ideas of sizes from ultrasound (mine was initially thought to be 42mm, was actually 19mm). I have now had my lumpectomy with clear margins and my lymph nodes are clear. There was a ‘blob’ on my mri that did not show up on ultrasound (turned out to be benign)
I have been feeling rubbish since june last year, and my gp ran lots of tests and decided I had fibromyalgia. I had been to see a specialist in jan and was waiting to see a sleep specialist when I got diagnosed. I have been feeling a bit better since the op, but then I have also not been at work (I used to do quite long hours). I am also beginning to doubt the fm diagnosis!
Good luck with the results today.
Hi Louise
I also struggle with fatigue, now and before diagnosis. But BCN said that was nothing to do with the cancer. So try not to worry ( easier said, I know). The MRI is a good idea as it will show up any problems and its better done sooner rather than later.
Best wishes x
Hi,
I got my results from the MRI yesterday.
They say I have an area 3.5cm in my right breast and that there were calcifications in my left that need more investigation.
I’m booked in for more biopsies on Tuesday and they will also look at my lymph nodes as they looked swollen or something it’s a bit of a blur.
I will get the results next Friday and meet the surgical team to discuss options.
I really don’t know much about my options yet. They mentioned whether I wanted to try and preserve the breast or mastectomy.
They’re also going to do more blood tests as I’m still concerned it might have spread, they said that should reassure me.
Still feeling quite anxious as I still don’t have a plan.
Oh they also mentioned oestrogen positive and her negative maybe??
Feeling a bit rubbish after my lymph node biopsy and X-ray guided biopsy in my other breast. The bitey machine was painful, I’m sure there’s a more technical name for it but I nearly fainted. I’m not sure if it’s due to my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome but I don’t cope well with anaesthetic. Meeting with surgeons Friday and should hopefully get my results and a treatment plan but they’re not sure if the results will be ready by then.
My daughter’s just gone to meet her teacher as she starts school in Sept and I’m in bed. She was very excited!
I had same biopsys and they are sore. I thought the anesthetic was really nippy and they damaged a nerve doing my lymph biopsy so my left arm is still tingling and feeling tired almost 2 weeks later. Be kind to yourself. Hope you get answers and positive news on Friday xxx
Hi, hope your okay , I was told yesterday biopsy shows breast cancer think he said grade 2 got to wait till next Wednesday for MRI to see if it’s spread gets results next Friday , seems so unfair to have to wait over a week again I just need to know to , I’m 58 and my girls are older which is hard enough but for you with younger children it must be so hard but they are such a lovely distraction at that age I’m sure they will help you through it all xx
Hi,
I got my results today. Not what I was hoping for. I’ve got to have chemo followed by double mastectomy as they’ve found pre cancerous cells in the other and also my lymph nodes in the side I knew about. Then radio I think. It’s ll quite daunting at the moment.
I hope everyone is doing as ok as they can be xx
Hi Jencat,
Thank you. It’s still sinking in I think but at least they have a plan now. Just need to get through it now.
Hope you’re ok xx
Hi Louise,
Well, at least you know what you’re dealing with & it will now be dealt with. As Sue says, taking it a stage at a time can help.
Loads of support here from all of us.
hugs
