I was sent for a MRI scan after my invasive lobular ca by my oncologist and I was under the impression that it was being done to asses the lymph nodes in order to decide wether immediate reconstruction would be possible when I have my bilateral mastectomy. However, I picked up my MRI results yesterday and there is no mention of the lymph nodes at all… It quite clearly says the right breast is clear, and it defines the area where the cancer is in the left breast. But I wanted it to say something about the lymph nodes… I’m not seeing a dr until Thursday… Am I really going to have to wait until after the mastectomy to find out if there is lymph node involvement?
Hello. So sorry to hear you have this awful illness. As I understand it the only definite way they can tell if you need lymph nodes removingis by doing a sentinel lymph node biopsy - removing a few nodes and testing them so unfortunately you do have to wait untilthey have done that to find out if you need more nodes rremoving xxx
Hi, I am in the same position as you, I was also sent for an MRI as Lobular Cancer can be tricky to see on ultrasound and mamograms. They confirmed also that there was no cancer in the right breast and unfortunatley for me that the cancer in the left was a lot bigger than first seen, but no mention of node involvement (although it was previously mentioned that they couldn’t see anything on the ultrasound). I am under the same impression that nothing can be confirmed until after the operation and node biopsy. I am still waiting for my mx date and the waiting is awful so I understand how you feel.
Sending hugs and positive thoughts x
Hi ladies, thank you for you’re responses and I’m sorry you’re in the exact same boat wax2014. Mine looks big on the MRI too 5cm x 2 cm… I’m going to a different hospital for a 2nd opinion tomorrow as I’m not that confident in the place where my surgery is booked…
