HI guys, i have a MRI scan tommortow after 1 year finishing treatment. I am a bit nrevous as i went before Xmas and they need to give an injection for the dye to get into the blood to scan better. They tried 6 times with me but could not get vein and the veins they got were small and thin. I think the chemo has weakened my veins. the nurses were lovely but i fainted shortly after and they could not scan me. So i am going again tommorow for another try. I have a fear needles and I am very brave even if i say so my self, but after 6 needles and no luck I get upset and feel like a pin cusion. It brings back all the memories of the chemo etc back going to the hosp. I sure it will be ok. Just wanted to share with people who may have felt/feel the same in a similar situation.xx
Hi Nadia, Sorry to hear about your MRI ordeal.I have to have an MRI on wednesday. Had my mammogram last week(which worried me 'cos they needed to do an extra image, they said cos 1st one was too light?!) But the mammogram originally let me down as it didn’t show the cancer, hence the reason for an MRI last year and again this week. Am not looking forward to it and like you am worried about my veins as they are not good after chemo. Keep kidding myself that I’ll just include it in a nice day out shopping, nip into the hospital for the MRI then treat myself to something nice in M&S afterwards, wish it was as simple as that!!! Hope all goes well for you tomorrow.

Oh Nadia, I hope all goes OK tomorrow…it hurts like hell when they keep trying to find a vein doesn’t it. My veins are getting sore having had 8 chemos and today I had the 15th of 17 Herceptins (which is given intravenously).
Have you tried warming the area where the canula needs to go? The nurses in my chemo unit wrap my hand and arm in a little “electric blanket” to encourage the veins to stand out and soften. Today I took in my husband’s hand warmer - its a little gadget that you boil up in a pan of water before you leave home, and activate by pressing a little button when you need it. I tucked it into my glove which I only took off when the nurse had to find a vein, and the needle went in like a dream. You can probably get one in Boots The Chemist.
All the best for tomorrow.

Hi All
I just wanted to ask if the MRI scan checks the whole body, and is it normal to have one after treatment ?
What do they detect ?
Sorry for my ignorance.
Thanks

Hi Guys,
I back from the MRI and went very well compared to the first time, the nurse could not get vein on first try, so they called the anethetist and came down and got it on second try. i had some EMLA cream before hand to numb differrent parts of hand and arm.
Smiler11 thankyou for your kind words, like you the mamogram did not dectect the ‘C’ the first time ( 2 years ago) so MRI will be every year aswell as mamo. I took your advice and treated myself to a little treat afterwards. xx
JustMe you poor thing your veins must be getting fed up by now. Thanks for the el;ectric blacnket advice, i did not hace time to get one, so used a hot water bottle instead.
All the Best with the rest of your treatment. xx
Hi Sprat,
I now have to have MRI scan yearly as a extra precaution as the mamo did not show the cancer, they think as I was 26 when DX breasts were to dense to show anything. MRI can be whole body or a certain part, i just have the top half scanned. It is a painless procedure ( apart from the needle) that can last from 20-40 mins. They even give you haed phones to listen to radio. Hope this helps. xx
Good Luck with the rest of your treatments.

Hi Nadia,So pleased your 2nd Mri was alot better than the first, do they tell you how long it will be before you get the results?
I reckon it’s going to be hard to warm my hands up to improve veins with the temperature as it has been today!!! Just back from footy with one of my boys and it was snowing!
take care
