Mums Lymphedema

Hi all,

Hope you don’t mind me messaging on here. My mum has lymphedema ans has massage on this 2x a week. It still causes her lots of problems though with swelling and feeling heavy / bruised. It gets her down as it’s a constant reminder of what’s going on. Most recently, she said her skin feels a bit like orange peel (kind of lumpy I guess) do any of you suffer from this? Dr is sending her for a scan to double check everything. My mum is currently on capecitabine chemotherapy treating the cancer. If anyone could reply I would be so grateful. Many thanks!

Best wishes xx

Hi I am guessing your mum is under the care of a lymphoedema service and wears suitably measured sleeves for the lymphoedema? How long has she had the lymphoedema? The reason I ask these questions is because you can develop fibrosis which makes the skin hard and scaly if it is not looked after correctly. I am guessing your mum is in the UK under care of NHS? Also does she regularly moisturise the arm with a suitable moisturiser such as E45 twice daily?

Hi white lily

Thank you for your reply. Has had lymphedema for about 9 months? She has lymphedema massage and they keep an eye on things for her. She moisturises with e45 three times a day xx
