Muscle pain on one side only - Anastrazole

Hi there,
I have been taking Anastrazole for about 3 years and over the past few weeks have been experiencing what feels like a pulsating strained muscle pain in a small area on the upper right side of my outer shin and a small area of the upper right side of my outer forearm. It’s not constant but it is happening regularly, both day and night. It’s not crippling but it is very uncomfortable . It’s not in the joints, and it feels quite focussed in specific areas of these two limbs (no where else). Is this likely to be caused by the Anastrazole? I had zoledronic acid but had my last treatment back in the spring. Any advice is welcomed. I’m worried in case it’s serious…… thank you!

Hi sissy1

Thanks for your post.

It sounds as though the muscle pain you are experiencing is unpleasant and it’s understandable that you are concerned about it.

Anastrozole, like many drugs, has side effects and can cause aching in joints and muscles. However, you say that you’ve been taking it for some time now, over 3 years, and that this pain is new. We would always suggest you contact your breast care nurse, treatment team (if you are still in contact with them) or your GP as they are best placed to assess the symptoms you’re having .

Do call our helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. The helpline team have time to listen, talk things through and signpost you to more support and information if necessary. Your call will be confidential, and the number is free from UK landlines and all mobile networks. The number is 0808 800 6000, (Relay UK -prefix 18001).
