This is a shameless ad for M&S. I have just ordered a Mx cossie on line and they are all in the sale with an extra 20% off with free P&P. They don’t have them in the shops, only on line. I can’t vouch for the quality, as I have not got it yet. I am planning a holiday and I found the fact that I would have to go uni boobed in a cossie made me feel quite depressed, so I have cheered up on ordering a cossie and I thought I would let you all know. Go to swimwear and scroll down to “post surgery”. Happy holiday planning, x
Bump!
Wow! thank you for that. I had no idea they did swimwear. I ordered to bras last week and they were lovely (total £8 for 2!) so off to have a peep now.
thanks

I have a mx swimming costume from Nicola Jane. I am a regular swimmer so wanted a ‘serious’ looking costume, rather than a beach style one. I swim every week, don’t often miss a week, so am in the pool probably 45-50 times a year. I bought my costume in 2007, and it is still as good as new. Although I had a recon in 2010 I still wear it as it is a nice swimsuit. So although it wasn’t cheap to buy, it has been remarkably good value.
I bought two costumes from M&S in the sales last July for the sum total of £15! They had a better selection last year, and I have been very happy with them.
Hi, the cossie has arrived so I thought time for an update. Unfortunatly the sale is over, so they are now full price.
It is good quality, but the gap for putting the prosthesis through is very small. I tried the advice I saw somewhere (on here? or on the younger women’s face book page?) about using those net shower puff thingys instead of a proper prosthesis and it seems to work quite well. I have not tried it in the water yet. You can get the shower puffs in the pound shop (3 for a pound). I wanted 1 and a half. The cossie is black (want to blend in, not ready to stand out yet) and pound shop actually have black shower puffs. You only get 1 black in a pack of 3 so I had to splash out and spend £2. I thought black would be good in case of the possibilty of it trying to “escape” and poking out. The possibilty is small, but it makes me feel better to have planned for it anyway. So now I just need the confidence to try it in a pool, with members of the general public present… Funny how I am accustomed to taking my top off for all and sundry in hospitals but terrified of stepping out in a public swimming pool in a cossie with a pretend shower puff boob that no-one knows about or is likely to care about.
Any advice? Experience of overcoming this that could encourage me?
Nicola Jane has some nice ones, although as Roadrunner says not the cheapest. I do think Nicola Jane has some nicer styles, they do have more choice and not all of them are more expensive (just most) so worth a look
Hi cressida
what a brilliant idea with the shower puff. let me know if it works as I have ordered a cossie but have nothing to stuff in it yet until I can get to a Nicola Jane shop. I only have either a bright pink puff or a black Mickey Mouse one with ears so I just may have to do some modifications. Imagine the embarrassment if 2 black ears started to appear out the top of my cossie!! Xx
good luck with it

I beleive the idea of the shower puff is that it is light weight, cheap and does not hold water. As I say, it is not my idea, I read about it (either on here or on the younger women’s face book group). I have yet to try it and would love to hear from anyone who has.
The shower puf sounds great. I bought a notmal swimming costume which had removable padding. I took the one from the left and it with the right. It is a bit smaller than normal boob but as I in the water and have my towel over my shoulder when walking around the pool, noone notices.
Hi There… I use a shower puff (both sides cos bilat Mx) Its fine… it works… the water drains out really quickly… its cheap! The only funny thing is when you get into the water, you get a cloud of little bubbles round you as it fills up!! Obviously if you dive straight in this wouldn’t be a problem - just a wuss like me that goes gradually into the water!
cheers
Maggy
Hi, I’m a regular swimmer and keen to get back into the pool again. I’m just over two weeks post surgery but feel the advice re when I can start again is very wooly for eg when you feel ready after the wound has healed. Do I just need more patience?A
When I saw my sugeon and BCN last week they said they were happy for me to swim now (and in fact recommended it) - that was 5 weeks post op, but I should imagine each case is different as it depends upon how well you have healed, any infection etc. Funnily enough the BCN recommended the shower puffs which I thought was really weird and then funnily enough have just seen it on here, so, having got my cossie (in the M & S sale as a result of this thread!) I’m going to see if I can find some in the supermarket tomorrow!
Glad I helped you bag a bargain Nextstep. I am wondering just how much commission M&S owe me. If you want another bargain - Asda have 5 shower puffs for a pound.
