Just thought I’d share my discovery. I had my first FEC of 6 on 10th March and, as expected, two weeks later my hair was coming out in handfuls. So I got OH to get the clippers out and then took a Bic to my scalp, and have been keeping it tidy with a Bic ever since. There has been a bit of growth, but only enough to be a nuisance and not very thick.
I now discover that things are happening in the follicle department. The bristles on my chin have re-emerged (why did THEY have to be the first?) as have the dark hairs on my top lip, and I also have one or two distinct sproutings in my armpits so I haven’t gone near my head with a Bic since last Wednesday’s meet-up in Reading, and there is some distinct fuzz all over my head. I’ve decided to let it do its own thing and see whether FEC5 gets rid of it all again, but in the meantime I thought I’d share. I can still see the freckles on my scalp and my head’s still shiny, but I celebrated this morning by using baby shampoo on my head! When there’s anything to see on the top of my head apart from shine and freckles, I’m going to change my avatar.
Nine weeks after it first headed west, my hair’s finally decided to put up a fight!
Thought I would say that this really made me smile. I came home from hospital Saturday after lumpectomy and anc and am missing mt family greatly (i sent them to Florida) so reading this has really put a big smile on my face I’m glad that your hair has started to grow and keep smiling
elttiks, I’ve heard it grows reasonably well on Tax, so you’re putting up a good show.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention the eyebrows and eyelashes. I lost quite a lot of the “Dennis Healey” hairs from my eyebrows, but there are most definitely signs of new ones sprouting. I have also had to pluck the ones that grew where I didn’t want them to grow. My eyelashes are still looking a bit sparse and straggly, but I’m even getting one or two new ones on the bald patches, so it’s all looking good. (Well, I use the term “good” in a relative way, it looks pretty bloody awful really, but it’s temporary so I’m cool about it. And I never was a beauty queen so didn’t have quite so far to fall in the glamour charts…)
Tracy, this just goes to show it’s temporary, something I was finding hard to believe myself.
Mine tooooooo I noticed a few strands peeping through just before fec 6 and never lost any afterwards. my last chemo was on the 28th April. i only have hair appearing on my head at the moment but hey thats no hardship as i dont need to shave!!! I just wish my hair would grow as fast as it came out, but i guess thats wishful thinking huh!!! My boys tell me i look like a babybird… cute i think :))
Take care everyone and good luck in coming to the end of chemo
Great news CM!!! Look forward to the next photo!! Mine did the same with 6 FEC so don’t think it will disappear again. I’m getting my hair back for this second time (after having TAX) and it’s still exciting. Keep oiling as I found my scalp got very itching and flaky with initial regrowth (now settled down fine after about a month).
Is the fuzz the same as your initial colour - I find that mine grows a a darker colour and without the initial grey - one of the few good things, as far as I’m concerned, about loosing your hair…
Enjoy this part of the “adventure” and keep those pesky hairs you don’t want under control!!
I have naturally very dark hair, so I’m looking like I’ve escaped from a concentration camp at the moment. It seems to be the same colour but it’s hard to tell, it’s not quite long enough to examine in detail. I did have maybe a handful of grey hairs but even if it grows back grey, it’ll still be hair!
And I quite fancy doing something outrageous with it as it grows. Lostinfrance put a lovely purple colouring through hers and it looked fab!
Oh yes. I intend to do that - purple’s my fave colour. Going commando and dying hair an outrageous colour (in the future if/when I get some to dye!) is part of my “Cancer can feck right off” protest.
Hey you did make me laugh with the concentration camp bit as i know where you are coming from. Mine is coming back very dark also and its really weird looking in the mirror. Before i lost my hair it was very light as i always had low lights in it.
Hey ho i dont care its growing back…
Wish mine would! Still 4 lots of chemo down and eyelashes and eyebrows still in place, am hoping they can survive 4 lots of tax now. But very glad to hear that all of yours is growing back it gives me hope that I won’t look like Matt Lucas forever lol.
