My hair's like Fuzzy Felt

Well it’s been just over 6 weeks since my last chemo (6 x FEC 100) and suddenly in the last few days my hair’s started growing in earnest, ie actually feels longer and thicker every morning. Last weekend it was a very slight covering of very fine fluff and now it’s like a grade 2 but fine and curly hair, it’s the same colour as it used to be and I’m sure once it has a bit of weight it’ll straighten out a bit.

I started a good multivitamin as soon as the 3 weeks of the last chemo cycle finished (ie have taken for the last 3 weeks) but in all honesty I’ve only taken the vits every other day as I’m terrible at remembering to take them.

I’ve also mad a point of letting my bald head see sunlight for 5 mins every other day (basically the days the sun is actually out) and I think it might be this that really kick started the growth this week.

I also rubbed my bald head with vitamin E oil every time I had a bath as I was warned that quite a few people get scalp problems on some chemos and it might stimulate regrowth too.

Can’t tell you whether it was all worth it but my head’s not quite so cold now WOOT.

congrats!!! it’s a lovely moment when u see hair for the first time post chemo.

mine is a bit wild - sort of def wave on top and the back is curly but straight on the sides…I am i going for my ‘first’ haircut on monday. I finished chemo in July and have about 2 inches at longest bits…

best of luck j

Hi Angie,

finished 3 Fec+3 Taxotere October 21st and since I lost my hair (70% around 2FEC) I started rubbing my head with Bio-Oil and/or e Vitamin.

Hair never stopped growing and kicked off really fast as soon as I started Taxotere. Now it’s 1,5cm.

Also never wore wigs or covered it during the summer. I wash it everyday and do a good scalp massage with oil. It’s working and I reckon I will have a nice “Jean Seberg head” by Xmas. Also rub oil on eye lashes and eyebrows and both are coming now. Never had scalp problems and I do believe it has to do with the oil and the massage and because I never covered it, air and sun did their bit too.

I am using bio-oil on my face too and drink at least 1l water daily and my skin looks fantastic.

Take care
Helena

oh you give me hope - I have just had no3 of Docetaxel after 3 Epirubicin. Lost most of hair with Epi now growing. A little means a lot doesn’t it?

Hi Angie

I’m a fuzzy felter too! I’d wondered how best to describe my hair but you got it in one! It’s coming along nicely (about 8 weeks after last FEC) and is luckily darker than it is grey. Front bits which gave me a lovely receding hairline look are now growing in so it doesn’t look quite so bad now. I’m using some Nioxin products that I got from my hairdresser way back in the days I had hair for when this happened. It includes a scalp therapy product to put in after washing that stimulates the skin. I’m just careful not to get it on my face - don’t need any of THAT hair coming back! Can’t wait to get this first lot cut when it’s long enough as it’s all full of chemo so nothing like my normal hair. After that I’ll be happy - not much to ask is it?

Hey fellow fuzzy.

I thought about stuff like that but decided no more man made chemicals, they caused the hair to fall out in the first place LOL. I’m just using a stupidly expensive shampoo that’s got no SLS etc but does have rosemary oils etc which is supposed to be stimulating… it certainly tingles in a good way. It’s the barefoot botanicals scalp rescue I’m using (OK maybe £12 isn’t that expensive really).

Hi all,

I finished my chemo 7 weeks ago and now I’m sporting some fine fluff on my head. It’s quite strange really, not real hair just like babies hair. I too have decided to go down the natural route and use Aubreys Organics, no SLS or Paraben’s. I used to have middle of my back length blonde hair and it took years to grow that so I won’t be holding my breath to get to that length again it’s short all the way now! What a saving on hair products!
Keep smiling.

I am also a fuzzy felter! It was 3 weeks yesterday since my last FEC and it started growing just before the last one. I now have a fine covering of fuzzy felt. It’s the same mousy brown as before (I was hoping for platinum blonde, but nevermind!). I’ve washed mine every other day throughout with baby shampoo and OH has laughed at me everytime as there wasn’t really anything to wash, but I think it’s helped - I’ve looked after what I did have! Have worn a wig but only when I’ve gone out - when I’m at home it comes straight off and I’ve been out in the garden without it quite a bit, so maybe the daylight has helped too. Not had any scalp problems, it didn’t even give me any trouble when it came out really either. I also keep looking at it thinking it’s longer and thicker every day! Was so excited when I had to shave legs and underarms!!
