My Lump has increased in size

Hi
I am waiting for my date for surgery, provisionally booked for the 14th April. I have been diagnosed with grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma approx 37mm which is in at least 1 node. Over the last few days it seems as if my lump has increased in size, I did think I was just being paranoid. I asked my husband what he thought and said that he thinks its got bigger. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do, will contacting my consultant make any difference?

If you are still healing from your biopsy it could be simply because of that. I couldn’t feel any lump before my biopsy but afterwards it felt like my breast was one big lump and it stayed that was until my mastectomy. If you want to call to let them now that you think it might be getting bigger and if you could have an earlier appointment it would be better, I would think that’s fine. But try not to despair because chances are it’s not but instead is just inflammation from healing.

Hello. I would contact your consultant anyway because they may want to scan you again to size it. I wouldn’t worry though because I thought mine was bigger when I found it. I think because we know it’s there. It’ll be taken out with surgery also.
All the best and try not to worry x

Hi my lump is 5cm and believe it or not I couldn’t feel it until I got diagnosed, I have very big boobs but I can feel it now. I have a lump at bottom of my boob that wasn’t there before it’s about 2.5 cm, I have since found out it’s a haematoma from the biopsies they took, I had 16 between 3 sites. It could be a bit of swelling due to biopsies but if your worried phone and speak to BCN they might be able to advise you. Good luck and let us know how you get on. X

Hi minahmoo

Thanks for your post. It’s understandable that you’re concerned about your lump getting bigger and if contacting your consultant will make a difference. You are certainly not being paranoid in thinking this may be the case.

If you have had a recent biopsy, as @Kay0987 and @spooky say, the increase in size could be due to bruising and swelling, which can last for some weeks.

However, as you’re concerned, do contact your breast care nurse or consultant secretary, who may be able to arrange an appointment for you to be assessed.
