There I was psyched up and ready for my recon this afternoon, only to get a phonecall telling me the op was cancelled! This was due to a ‘big emergency’, I am so disappointed, I had finally decided to have the LD flap and was actually looking foward to a new boob (or two!). I am now really worried incase I have to go to the bottom of the waiting list again.
Oh Tracy,
How disappointing for you. To build yourself up for something like this and then it goes and get cancelled is a big blow. It would be very unfair if you now go to the bottom of the waiting list, I’m sure that won’t happen. I have decided also that I want the ld flap with implant (haven’t enough flesh) and am in the process of deciding on a surgeon. Its very daunting isn’t it to elect to have surgery that isn’t necessarily needed, apart from emotionally and cosmetically. I hope you get it done soon.
Best wishes,
Rosie x
Thanks Rosie, it was a big decision and I finally made it at the weekend. I also don’t have enough spare flesh for a DIEP and my surgeon said if I opted for that it could actually end up smaller than the other one (which I never thought would be possible!)
I really hope I can get in sooner than later, the thought of waiting another 3 months is awful. My BC nurse may be able to put my mind at rest after she has spoken to the PS on Thursday. I’ll let you know what happens.
Hi Anne, I’m still fuming!! I keep thinking that it could all have been over and done with by now, I’m dreading them giving me a date that is months away. If I haven’t heard anything by the middle of next week I shall be on the phone!
the same happened to me with Oxford, and yes I was going to the back of the Q until I kicked up almighty. Told them I should be put in next and so on with the rest of the Q - however worked out this messes up their targets on cancelations. In the end I did get re-shuffled to a different diary abd got my op 2 months later, although it was a bit cloak and dagger and not his usual recon op day.
I’m due some further day surgery next month and have already been warned this is in danger of being canx by his secretary, but thy will know nearer the time, its a pain in the backside arranging cover at work and school runs.
Hope you get your new date soon and its not too far away.
Gosh I’m really worried now! I bet you were fuming, Debbie that is awful. I better not be put to the back of the queue, that is just so unfair after waiting 4 months. I will definatley create a big fuss if I am.
Unfortunately, his secretary is on holiday this week and knowing my luck, she has gone to Australia for 3 months!
Oh well, fingers crossed I don’t have to wait too long.
My BC nurse called today, she had spoken to my PS and he said he was going to reschedule my op for early April, so please all keep your fingers crossed that I go in!!!
I’m giving it to next Thursday and if I still haven’t heard I will call the PS’s secretary.
Also, I’m going to be cheeky and ask him if he can enlarge the other boob as he is using an implant in the one to be reconstructed and I cannot believe for a minute that they produce implants as small as my exisiting bosom!
Hi Tracy, so sorry to hear your op was cancelled so disappointing!
I had Ld reconstruction in November and i am also having my other side enlarged. My p.s wouldn’t do it all in one operation.
I am still going for expansions but i have had problems with my skin
stretching. I just wanted you to know that it does seem like a scary
op but it was so much easier than i thought it would be.Hope it all goes well for you. Helenx
Thanks for your good wishes, I haven’t heard a thing since my BC nurse spoke to the surgeon. I have tried everyday to get through to his secretary (he told me to do this if I hadn’t heard after 2 weeks) but there is never any answer. I have also emailed but haven’t had a reply to that either. The admissions department have their phone on answerphone constantly, it is so frustrating!!
I feel like crying to be honest, I am really upset. I feel like I have been totally forgotten about and that the operation will never happen. I know I shouldn’t winge when there are ladies on here just starting out on their journeys, but I was hoping it would all be done and dusted by now.
I am pleased that your op went well, and hope that the problems you had with your skin are a lot better. You did give me hope when you mentioned that you are having your other breast enlarged though, did your PS give you any indication as to how long you would have to wait for that?
Once again, sorry to winge and thanks again for your message.
Hi Tracy, I really know how you feel its just constant waiting!
I went yesterday and had my last fill and when i asked him how long it would be before he did the other side he said no idea!! Although
the week before he told me 6 weeks(wish he would make his mind up!)
It is coming up 2 years since i first went to see him. Nobody tells
us when we decide to have the recon just how long it can take.
I really hope you hear something soon and you dont have to wait much longer. Any advice or support you need on your Ld op just ask! keep me posted and i will let you know when i hear about my other boob!
Take care Helenxx
Thanks that is really nice of you and I will probably bombard you with questions!!!
I spoke to a friend of mine last night who told me about PALS - Patients liason and advice service - who helped her when she had problems getting her young son into hospital for an ear operation. So I will give it another week, then give them a call.
I will keep you informed, hopefully I will hear this week.
Have a fabulous weekend and let’s hope the sunshines tomorrow as well!
Almost 4 weeks since my op was cancelled and would you believe I still do not have a new date. Despite phoning and emailing I have had no reply, so I tried another PS’s secretary and found out that the one dealing with my booking is on holiday…again!!! She was on holiday when they cancelled the op and is now off again and ‘as far as they know’ is back on Tuesday.
It is really getting me down and constantly on my mind, I left a message for my BC nurse last week and even she hasn’t replied. I’m getting the impression that I have either been lost in the system or they don’t want to do the b****y operation.
Sorry - again - for moaning, but I had to let off some steam!!!
Happy Easter to you all - I shall be sulking for most of it!!
There’s me prattling on about my pre-op and you must be chomping at the bit to get going. Can only cross fingers and toes that you get some answers soon.
Have you tried to get help from those brilliant nurses who run the BRA meetings at Broomfield??
Thinking of you and try not to let it spoil your Easter break.
Cheers
Anne x
Don’t worry about mentioning your pre-med, I’m really pleased for you and anxious to find out how it goes! I bet you’re so excited and I’m sure my turn will come soon.
Thanks for suggesting the BRA ladies at Broomfield, I hadn’t thought of that myself - I did have their contact details but have mislaid them somewhere.
Very best of luck for your op, I will be thinking of you!!
