Hi Ladies, you have been so great to me through my Dx I wondered if you could give me some advice about my sister, she has just told me she has been to the breast clinic because she has found a lump in her breast, she says she had a nasty bang to her breast about 8 weeks ago , about 2 weeks later she had a discharge from her nipple of what appeared to be ‘old’ blood, dark brown in colour, it went away then a couple of weeks later it happened again, she went to her gp who could feel the lump and she has been referred, she has had a bi-opsy today, do you think it could be a result of the injury as it is in the same area, does anyone else have experience of a dark brown nipple discharge ?
Cant believe it could be happening to my sister too, quite worried about her.
Jean.
gosh I am not medical expert, but I know that if you damage flesh it can get infected even if the skin does not break, my brother had an infection in his knee where he knocked it realy badly.
If there was an infection in the breast any discharge would be mucky.
from memory there are lots of reasons for dark thick discharges, things like mastitus, and fibrous changes both of which might be lumpy. Some drugs can cause it it too I think the statistics were only between 5 and 15 percent are cancerous.
So its the same figure we always tell people- for every 10 people with breast changes only 1 has cancer…
Of course you are worried about her, even if the statistics look good. How is she coping?? At least you have been through the waiting room and can help her with her emotions. Perhaps you could suggest that she comes on here
Hello
So sorry to hear about your sister’s problems. Obviously we aren’t qualified to answer your question (well I’m not) but I do know that she will be well cared for whatever the outcome of the tests. Poor you, having this on top of your own diagnosis. It’s easy to say that most lumps are benign blah blah because you, like others of us, are the unlucky one, so you’re bound to worry more. I am sure you sister is glad of your support right now as she waits and wonders.
I wish I could make it right for you but I can’t, so sending a cyber hug…
Thanks OAL and Revcat, I am praying its nothing to worry about, my sister is older than me and has recently had a kidney transplant so she can well do without this, I am also upset as she has been carrying this for several weeks without telling me as she did n’t want to add to my own worries, but I am there for her now ,we have had a good chat . She has seen how I have come through things and we will cope with whatever gets thrown our way.She is n’t on the internet , has n’t a laptop, so can’t come on here.
THANKS AGAIN
Jean
Is she on imunerepresant drugs?? have a look on google to see what the side effects of the one she is taking are, some of them do cause nipple discharge.
I am sure even if it is a side effect of a drug they would still want to check it out, but it would be nice to know it is a possility
Hi OAL. yes she is on imunosurpesant drugs and they do make her bleed/bruise easily, so maybe they have some effect , she has been in touch with her renal consultant and they are monitoring her too.
