Mylan Tamoxifen - can’t find it!

Hello there,

I am a year on from diagnosis of bi-lateral ER+ breast cancer and have now tried three different brands of Tamoxifen. I am currently taking Mylan and it seems to be ok in terms of side effects, however I have been to 7 pharmacies and none of them have it or can get it for me. Any ideas what I can do? I live in Kent and just don’t know where to try next or how to go about a search. I have managed to get a prescription written with the brand name on it which I thought might help.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Hi
I have been on tamoxifen over 2 years now and did try many different ones in the beginning with varying side efffects.

I am on tilomed brand and my pharmacy can always get it. I hope this is helpful if you can manage to find mylan

Xx

Independent pharmacies (not chains like boots, superdrug etc…) usually have access to order from a broader range of distributors - so I’ve been told.

If it’s not possible to get that brand, perhaps try a new brand that you haven’t tried before (i.e. not one which you know has given you problematic side-effects)?

I experienced severe allergic reaction (skin) on a couple of brands including “tilomed” which sparkle had mentioned above, and went through a difficult summer trying to figure out what was causing the symptoms I had.

I’m now on the “RelonChem” brand, which I appear to be getting on well with so far. My GP & local independent pharmacy have added the name to my repeat prescription.

But it just goes to show how each of us can have varying reactions to different brands. Hope you find a solution.

Hello plum41

Thanks for posting.

Many women like you find they do prefer one brand of hormone therapy over another in terms of the side effects they experience. However, it isn’t always possible to get a particular brand as you are finding. It is usually a case of ringing around different pharmacies which you have already tried.

It might be easier to explain what brands don’t suit you rather than the one that does and try a new one as @TDG suggests. There may be more than one that suit you.

It might help to post in the hormone section of the forum to continue the thread and hear from others.
