Hi, when you go through your Nadir week when bloods are their lowest, should we be staying in?? My little Girls sports days right in the middle of mine and I really want to go, but not sure if I should? It’s outdoors only a couple of hours so I could refrain from standing next to anyone.. do others still go out and about during this time?
Also does anyone have any eating issues?? I cannot seem to get enough food this last couple of days and feel I’m constantly eating!! It’s only 1pm and I’ve already had cereal, 2 egg on toast and a beef sandwich and glass of milk with lots of tea and water in between!! And I’m still hungry!

Hey @loopylea
If you’re in any doubt about your sports day, I’d phone the helpline. I was worried about visiting the family for a Sunday dinner as one of my nephews had a cold, but I gave them a call and they said as long as he’s not running a really high temperature, it was fine as long as we don’t spend any time cuddling up. He’s 16 so that was not a problem!
And a big yes to the insane eating. On my 3 weekly Pembro/Pac/Carbo cycle, I’m on steroids for three days after and just demolish everything in the kitchen like a gremlin. I return to a more civilised way of eating within a few days of that cycle and then it stays normal during my two weeks of Pac only in between. I just enjoy my ravenous binges then have a nice long nap afterwards!
Hope this helps. x

Hey @loopylea I’ve got 2 young daughters (3 and 5) and before chemo I was so scared that I wouldn’t be able to do things that we normally do because I’m out and about everyday! When I had my initial appointment with the oncologist and doctor, they said it’s about your mental health aswell as keeping healthy pshysically, the advice they gave me was do what you normally would but with more caution and don’t be in very close contact ie hugging/kissing somebody with a cold/cough etc (pretty hard when you have a 3 year old that literally sneezes into your eyeballs
).
I’ve carried on going to playgroups a few times a week but just steer clear of any extra snotty kids
although hard when it’s usually mine! Extra snitiser/hand washing/not eating toast of shared plates etc! I’ve been to soft play a few times and done lots of kids days out and I’ve been fine! I did go and cuddle baby lambs on Easter and had abit of a panic and rang the hotline but they just told me what to look out for and ring, luckily I was fine! I’ve really focused on eating really well to hopefully keep my immune system up as much as it can be on chemo!
My daughters sports day falls in my low blood count time of my last one and I’ll definitely go but just again steer clear or any poorly children, it’s outdoors so I feel like it’s fairly safe. I was talking to my BCN the other day about this and I was saying I’ve managed to do everything I normally would apart from swimming during chemo and been fine and she said she had been talking to a lady who had pretty much stayed in the whole time, wouldn’t see family etc was pretty much isolating but she had still caught some pretty bad bugs!
All that being said do what you’re comfortable with, there really is no right and wrong
On the eating front being on EC made me like that so I had to make sure I had a constantly flow of healthy snacks to eat
what chemo regime are you on xxxxxx

Ah that’s so good to know! My daughters been steering clear of me in case she passes anything to me!! Hard not to want to grab and give cuddles constantly isn’t it??
I shall go and cheer her on for her sports day ( even though she has no actual interest in it) and embarrass her like I do every year!!
I’m actually craving naughty food rather than good food!! Lots of carbs! Today I’ve eaten cereal, 2 egg on toast, quavers, beef butty, bacon scrabbled egg, sausage , beans and toast for tea and a cream eclair!!! Nothing at all that’s good for me and I would never have a fry up ever!! Or cereal with sugar ! My diet has been pretty healthy prior to Chemo now it’s rubbish!! I think it’s because my mouth feels So weird that I just need to keep having flavours in it so I don’t lose my taste buds! I’ve been craving McDonald’s for 3 days and I don’t eat those anymore!
My regime is 3 weekly docetaxel and Carboplatin.. side effects have been not too bad with the exception of a really upset heart rhythm! Which has taken about 7 days to get back to normal.
How have your side effects been??
