Nail care concern

Hi,

I’m starting Chemotherapy on Tuesday and I am currently wearing Biab nails. There are so many conflicting reports. Am I able to continue wearing them during treatment?

@cazv

Hi,
I have BIAB nails and I read so many conflicting reports prior to my chemo. However, I decided to continue having them done, knew I was going to lose my hair so thought I would try and have something to make me feel better :wink:
I have had 3/3 EC and 2/3 Docetaxol and had no problems to date. However, my nail lady kindly gave me my own set of tools that she only uses for me and thoroughly sanitises before use. I have also oiled my cuticles at least twice daily all the way through.
Think it’s all about side effects for each individual… good luck whatever you decide! X

Thank you so much for your response. I am of the same mindset as my nails are my only luxury and make me feel good :smiling_face:

Hi cazv

Thanks for posting.

Nail changes are a common side effect from chemotherapy as the information in the link explains.

It is usually ok to wear nail polish, but it is generally advised to avoid using false nails, acrylics or similar products while the nails are brittle, as they can trap bacteria that may cause infection.

However, as @alisona1 mentions, some women choose to continue using these products with care throughout chemotherapy.

It’s always best to ask your treatment team for further advice on whether you can continue to wear your Biab nails throughout treatment or whether they would prefer you to have them removed.
