Does anyone have tips for encouraging a seroma to disperse on its own?
I had a lumpectomy three weeks ago and have a hard seroma in the place where the tumour was. I think it’s softening but not sure.
Any ideas out there?
Thank you!

I would contact your bcn. I had a slight one and she said the body will release the fluid on its own. But larger ones they drain
i had the same after surgery and they recommended massage for 5 minutes morning and night, also the BCN gave me some mobido gauze which i wore 24/7 for two weeks then went back. both these helped as well as crop tops 24/7 for 3 months after surgery.
Thanks so much for this.
Sorry to hear this - it is so uncomfortable. I had mastectomy and lymph node clearance on 27th Feb - had seroma drained once - it was very squishy - but now it’s reduced but hard - with a bit of give so not solid. Feels very strange - I’m massaging it - so we’ll see.
Also the scar tissue is very lumpy near the cleavage which adds to the weird feeling!!
Any suggestions?
Love to you all x
Following for any advice. Mine is in my armpit where lymph nodes were removed. Nurse didn’t want to drain it at my 2 week follow up but it’s getting increasingly uncomfortable.
Hi - an old thread I know but all linked. I am now five months post mastectomy and full. node clearance. I am finding the breast area increasingly uncomfortable - very tight and hard. This gets worse after exercise - which i want to keep on doing obviously. Have been reading the info about Lymphodema but don’t think that’s it but will contact my breast care nurse to check. Difficult getting comfortable at night - during the day a bit better as doing stuff/work is a distraction. Does this sound familiar to anyone - would love to hear from you and how you are dealing with it. Love to all x
I’ve had a lumpectomy and 29 lymph nodes taken out (5 were cancerous) Since then I’ve had my breast drained 4 x and need it done again. No one mentioned I should massage the area, in fact no advice at all.
I have found the lack of communication really hard to deal with. I’ve been told chemotherapy will start for me in a couple of weeks but again no real tangible information as to what to expect. Am I alone in this?
