Nausea with tamoxifen

Hello lovely ladies, I’ve just started tamoxifen (day 2) and feel so nauseous today. I’ve been taking it in the evenings but hardly slept last night and feel rubbish today. I really hope this doesn’t last as i’m supposed to be on it for 5 years! Has anyone had a similar reaction? Does it go away, or is it better to try a different brand? Interested to hear others experiences.

Hi brighton765
Sorry you are feeling rubbish. Taking tamoxifen can make you feel nauseous when you first start them, but it should settle down in the next couple of weeks or so. Hope you feel better soon xx

Hello! I had nausea when I first started Tamoxifen for probably the first week or so and then thankfully it died down and I’m on month 4 now and no nausea since! (Touch wood!!)

I’m on my 2nd month of tamoxifen. No nausea but the night sweats are real! xx

I also had nausea for the first couple of weeks. I’m 2 months in and just realised as I read your post that I haven’t felt sick with it in ages.

@hope889 Yup the night sweats are spectacular. I can just about manage them by making sure my window is wide open all night.

Hello, I’ve been on Tamoxifen for exactly a month and have had bouts of nausea too. Also really poor quality of sleep! My BCN said some brands are better tolerated by your body than others so if you’re really struggling you could ask for a different brand at your pharmacy.

That’s a good tip. I had one brand for 2 months. Noticed that this month I have been given another brand and the hot flushes and night sweats are far worse. I am also very achy. I will pop in to the pharmacy tomorrow.

That’s very encouraging to hear! X

Thats good to hear! So encouraging to hear that these symptoms usually don’t last. I’ve actually noticed in the last couple of days that if i take it literally right before i go to bed, i seem to feel better. Keeping everything crossed that it stays that way :crossed_fingers:

Yes, I heard this too. I think i’ll try and stick with this one for a bit longer and see what happens. I hope you manage to find a brand that suits you x

I couldn’t take Tamoxifen. It made me feel terrible so the oncologist swapped me to Anastrazole (Arimidex) which was much better

My nausea went away after the first couple of weeks, so hopefully yours will too. I get a different brand given every prescription and I’ve not found a lot of difference between them personally. The only real side effect so far after 8 months of taking Tamoxifen is the odd flush and sore joints for which I’ve started taking Tumeric supplements. Stick with it a bit, hopefully your nausea will ease x

Breast cancer nurses got in touch with pharmacy and asked they switch me back to the orginial tamoxifen brand. Side effects much better again. Worth investigating other brands if one doesn’t work.
