nausea

Hi Everyone,
Had 9 rads treatements of 15 and have just started to feel very nauseous. My only treatments have been surgery and rads. Does anyone know if this is normal? It doesn’t seem to be listed in the usual side effects and I’m aware of a tendency to attribute absolutley everything to rads at the moment and of course, it could be something else entirely. I’m starting to feel like a hypochondriac!

Hi Mishkadog

You may find it helps to talk this over with one of our Helpliners. Opening times are 9-5 on weekdays and 10-2 on Saturdays. The number is 0808 800 6000

Take care

Very best wishes

hi i felt the same during rads it only lasted a couple of days but take care xxx

Hi - i felt sick too and was told it wasnt a side effect of radiotherapy ! But i think we know better - it did pass as kerij said  nothing to worry about x

Thank you very much, Kerj and Ceej. That’s reassuring. I won’t worry about it then, so much easier when you know it’s nothing to be concerned about. I’m sure it will right itself in time and it’s not so bad today.
Best wishes to you. XX

Hi Mishkadog
I also have nausea at random parts of the day and have even woken up with it - have had 4/15. I was also told (radiographer x2) it had nothing to do with rads. She suggested it was probably related to anxiety! Tho I didn’t feel sick before rads and I don’t feel anxious now!
However my oncologist said that some women can be sensitive to Radiotherapy - we are all different. Not enjoying hot Booby much or the stingy feeling I get where my mid chest tattoo is.
Finally started tamoxifen today… Thought I’d get it ‘bedded’ down in my system before I go back to work.
Hugs for everyone
Lozza xx

Hi Mishkadog
I too had nausea when I was having rads sometimes worse than others I mentioned it to staff but they said the same not normally a side effect of rads but as you can see by above posts it obviously can be ! Unfortunately once you are dx with bc you can become paranoid I know I am and I worry at every pain or se I think this is normal we are human, I still have nausea now Im on tamoxifen again been told usually subsides after a few weeks well that was 7 months ago !!! but again have mentioneds it to Drs etc and they dont seem concerned so Im trying not to be :frowning: will we ever live worry free I do hope so  all the best hun xx

Thank you everyone, for all your supportive comments. Nausea has disappeared now, thank goodness. Interesting, isn’t it, how everyone experiences the treatment differently? I wish the medics would take more account of variations and then the process would be less scary. I finished RADs on Thursday last week and have progressed to itching and soreness! Oh well. At least all the treatment for me is over now, so I’m feeling fortunate.
All the best to everyone. XX

Hi everyone just wanted to add my bit to the above… Just got back from rads - number 8 - and feel definitely nauseous. Haven’t experienced this before at all. Hoping it doesn’t continue but seems not from Mishkadog & Lottie’s experiences. Have taken a travel pill and gone to lie down. It’s weird how I go there feeling quite fine and perky and come home feeling washed out and nauseous. Wonder if it’s the s/es building up as I near halfway…? X

Hi Southcoastbeachgirl

Sorry to hear you are not feeling too good. I have just had 12 out of 18, no nausea but have lost my appetite a bit, nothing I really seem to fancy foodwise. Even gone of chocolate, hope that doesn’t last!! Feeling tired, which I know is normal so sure it will pass. Just trying to relax more than usual ( I am not someone who normally does that very much) and have had some nice relaxing facials and complementary therapies which are really helping. Think I need to be pampered a bit! BTW I haven’t left my petrol cap off again…yet! Which part of the South coast are you from? We spend lots of holidays on the South Coast in East Devon and particularly a little village called Beer, a most wonderful place.
VAB

Hi VAB glad to hear you are keeping your petrol cap close lol. Me too! Rads no 9 today and no nausea thank goodness as I was driving myself today and a 60 mile round trip feeling sick isn’t fun! Feel likeI lost a day yesterday what with the nausea initially and when that wore off overwhelming need to sleep - felt like Rip Van Winkle. Glad to be a bit more with it today but pouring with rain here on the south coast so no planting seeds for me today! Feel like I need to make the most of feeling ok as you never know from one day to the next how you will feel… btw I am in Sussex between the beach & the South Downs. Not quite so picturesque as Devon but sea air very restorative all the same. Totally agree with what you say about appetite - nothing seems very appealing and my mouth feels like its made of towelling sometimes its so dry!
Anyway glad you are finding some ways to pamper yourself. think we deserve it. My daughter treated me to a pedicure last week but with this chilly weather haven’t had much chance to get my toes out since! Keep in touch and all best to you and all the others on Radio GaGa over the coming days/ weeks

Hi South Coast Beach Girl
Glad things not too bad for you. The tiredness has kicked in for me now, just had session 14 of 18, fell asleep this afternoon about 4pm and same yesterday. A really deep sleep for an hour and must admit felt much better when I woke up. Skin not so bad, a bit of a spotty heat rash but no broken skin. Radiotherapists suggested keeping the tub of aqueous cream in the fridge as that makes it very soothing. Have done just that and am hoping my husband or son don’t try spreading it on toast thinking it is a new low fat spread I have bought!!

Chilly up here in the north too, too cold to put bedding plants out and a lot of the plants a good few weeks behind were they normally would be. However I have predicted a long hot summer if only because I have to stay covered up!!
Hope next couple of sessions don’t tire you too much and the weekend gives us time to get our energy back up for the final few. Let me know how you go.

P.S.
I have the horrid dry mouth and a fellow radiotherapy patient handed round Sherbet Lemons as she said they work for her. Have bought some as my mouth did feel much better. Just don’t eat too many at once or they take the skin off the roof of your mouth!!

Thanks for the tip VAB
keep at it and make sure those men don’t eat your aqueous! Xx

Hi all
I lost my appetite during chemo and felt constant nausea after chemo finished. This continued on right through rads. I think some of it is just the body trying to cope with everything thrown at it.
One thing that really helped me through all my nausea was a medication called domperidone. You can buy it over the counter although I wouldn’t recommend it - I’d definitely get it prescribed. You need to take two tablets for nausea. Worked really well for me.
Elinda x

Thanks Elinda. Really helpful tip - nausea seems to be mostly at the beginning of the week. Now at the end of the week and halfway through, just feel pooped!
