Nerve/nipple pain after mastectomy

I had a single mastectomy (skin+nipple sparing) 5 days ago, with implant reconstruction. At night time I’m experiencing excruciating pain like a red hot poker in my nipple area. Spoke to BCN who spoke to consultant to confirm it’s likely nerve pain. Anyone else experience this? Much worse at night, paracetamol ibuprofen dihydrocodeine don’t touch it. Can’t move without crying out. Then it can go like a light switch has been turned off.
Any tips to prevent or deal with? Long weekend means can’t phone GP for any other meds.

I have had a mastectomy but not suffered the nerve pain in these areas as I had nipple removed, but would expect you need a med specifically for nerve pain which those you have tried are not. Hope you are able to manage til after weekend and then able to get something to help xx

I have had a mastectomy and a reduction 2 weeks ago and I am in agony with what I would describe as red hot pokers going through my wounds . Resulting in me nearly crying , I have told the breast care nurses but they don’t seem to think it’s a big deal ! The one yesterday said oh yes tingling !!! If this is tingling I’m a monkeys aunt ! . She said just ring your own gp. I’m quite disappointed and feel this part of the situation has been let down by what had been a very good service up until the after care !

Amytriptyline has been my saviour for nerve pain prescribed by a pain consultant. Maybe ask your GP? Takes a few weeks to kick in though.

Thank you , it was nearer the operation I felt I needed advice but should have been advised maybe before the operation
