Nerve pain in reconstruction

Hi all

I had a diep flap breast reconstruction 6 years ago and have been experiencing really painful nerve pain the last few weeks and I am worried if this is normal?

Hi Loulinen,

Thanks for posting.

It’s understandable you feel worried about the nerve pain you have been experiencing. New symptoms in a treated area may occur some years later, these might be due to weight changes, musculo skeletal conditions or even a bra that’s not fitting well for example.

Some longer-term complications can also occur after a breast reconstruction. We always suggest that new and persistent symptoms without an obvious cause are reported. I imagine you have been discharged from follow up so do talk to your GP. They can assess the possible cause

or they may recommend a referral back to the breast unit for review of your reconstruction.

Do call our helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions.
