Hi everyone,
I’m new to this so hope I’m posting the right way/in the right forum,
I found a small moveable lump in my left breast 3 months ago, and as I am only 19 dismissed if as being normal monthly changes, as it was still there 1 month ago I went to see my GP, who refered me too the breast clinic and said to me as I am so young he thinks it may be a breast mouse. Recently my breast has been really aching, I’m not sure if this is normal for this type of lump, or if it is just me being very paranoid.
My appointment with the breast clinic is on Monday (which is 4 weeks after the appointment with my GP) so I have been stressing and waiting a long time. I am very nervous about the whole process of what occurs at a breast clinic and was wondering if anyone could tell me what happens, I was wondering if I would be okay going by myself or if I should go with a partner?
I am sorry if I sound silly, it’s just really worrying me, it doesn’t help that i am a second year university student studying law and approaching my end of year exams.
Thanks in advance for your replies, and these great forums in which I have stumbled upon.
Amy xx
Dear Amy
A warm welcome to the forum. I am sure other members will soon be along to offer you support. I thought our publication about what to expect at the Breast Clinic may be helpful. Here is the link:

Hi Amy-Louise,
Im not sure if you have had your appointment as yet? But expect to have an ultrasound on the affected breast and if they arent happy with what they see they will then more than likely do a mammogram and if they are still not happy they generally will take a biopsy from the lump. Dont be alarmed if they do take a biopsy it dosent mean it will be cancer. All these tests may not be actioned on the same day but I think they do try and do these as quickly as possible.
I was lucky and had all the tests carried out on the same day and found out soon after my results, unfortunatley for me it was cancer. Feel free to take your partner although you wont be given your results on the same day but I think its still a good idea to take somebody with you.
Dont feel silly for posting any queries or concerns you may have. There will always be many ladies on here who will reply and give good sound advice. I hope your appointment goes as well as it can, please dont hesitate to message me if you need to talk. Beccy
Thanks very much for the replies, the leaflet really helped! Thanks for your advice Beccy, I think Im going to take my boyfriend with me. I am trying not to worry too much but its just so stressful, I have my appointment at the breast clinic on Monday, it has been 4 weeks since my GP referred me.
I hope I wont have to wait too long for the results if they do have to do a biopsy. I am just so nervous at the moment it has only really kicked in a few day ago since my breast started to ache where the lump is located.
I have been trying to express my concerns to people i.e. Mum, Uni friends and Boyfriend but all they keep saying is ‘I’m sure its nothing’ but the fact that it might be something is lingering in the back of my mind and I feel like no-one want to talk about it with me which is why I am so glad I found these forums.
Hope you all had a nice day today, again thanks so much for the advice. xx
Hi Amy-Louise,
Please remember that most breast lumps ARE NOT cancer, but is good you are getting checked out.
Please let us know how you get on.
