Anyone have any suggestions what I can eat or do to boost my neutrophils whilst on chemo … they were low last time and I’m worried they may not be good enough to have my next cycle…
I wish I knew. Mine have just given me three days in hospital.
There is no magic food. I am also in hospital with neutropenia at the moment. Just eat lots of fresh fruit and veg and the healthiest protein you can opt for.
It won’t improve your neutrophils but at least it will help your body stay healthy as it can be while your bone marrow recovers from the poisons and starts manufacturing those magic cells again.
Wish I knew too. My 3rd Fec delayed by low neutrophils and they just scraped through for fec 2. Feel so lacking in energy. Where’s my get up an dgo gone? Munching a little dark chocolate, not in hope of miracle but not had any for ages and it cheers me up.
Ok done a little bit of research … Lifemel honey … expensive but boosts blood cells … worth a shot and I think Macmillan recommend it.
Lots of fruit and veg … esp broccoli spinach etc No processed foods whatsoever … meat, bread, etc from deli all out … exercise 30 mins a day if poss … nuts, seeds, oily fish, all the usual healthy stuff but I’m afraid no miracles out there.

more info on neutrophils and the boosting thereof!
Hi
I had 4 AC and 4 Tax and on recommendation I had the lifmel honey all the way through. Although the necessary blood counts dropped dramatically they stayed above the required figures and I managed to have all my chemo on time. Not sure if you would count it as lucky but I also developed an aversion to all things fatty which led me to a pretty healthy diet at the same time.
The only real downside to this for me was that I really came to hate honey and now can’t stand the stuff.
Good luck
Andie
Hi
Are you having the neulasta or granocyte jabs to keep your neuts up? I only ask because no one on this thread has mentioned them . If you are not and your neuts are low then you should ask about them. They did not work brilliantly for me but my blood did recover enough to have chemo each time. Neulasta is the one jab and it is expensive but if you have had an admission I should think it should be considered. The granocyte jabs are less expensive but you need more of them.
Just a suggestion if you are really struggling and not on these already

Homeopathy has helped me. Had TAC in 09 nd now weekly Taxol / Avastin and my neutrophils stayed about 2.6 ish. I go nd see a homeopathic Dr rather than over the counter stuff.

I do all the right diet things, just had homemade brocolli soup. Will research the honey. Had honey for breakfast and have manuka in the house for sore throats. I’d see an homeopath as it’s worked for me in the past with psoriasis but have no car at moment and can’t ask daughter for any more lifts. Buses here are useless. Thanks for all the advice everyone.
I used juice plus and never had a blood problem through chemo also juiced beetroot along with other things. Good luck. pm me if you want any more info.
I eat beetroot a lot but when I’ve juiced it my nose has turned purple. mmm, love beetroot. Will have some later on.
