New diagnosis

HI all

I found, what turned out to be a cyst in my right breast, which thankfully the doctor referred  me to the clinic for. They mamogrammed both and found what they considered was 90% certain a non suspicious lump which they biopsied.

I was quite relaxed about the results until the nurse said that lady that has just gone in was supposed to be seen after me, I suddenly thought this might not go well. They found a 11 mm hormone sensitive cancer, which is coming out next week, followed by radiotherapy and hormone tablets.

It has been a whirlwind since, my brain is fried. I have been sorting out work, i am self employed so have a few clients to sort.

I had some hair extensions for both of my daughters wedding, they got married within 6 weeks of each other, luckily I didn’t have much time to worry about my results. I am quite upset about having them taken out today and my gel nails off on Saturday ready for my wide excision surgery

I am hoping to work for a couple of clients during my recovery from home, but am worried if I will manage while having radiotherapy.

Overall I am feeling ok about it at the moment, I have had to have some difficult conversations this week.

I am quite worried about potential nerve damage after the surgery, I have been learning to play the guitar.

Funny the things that we think of while we are getting the bad news, but they bombarded me with information and I cant actually remember half of it.

Sorry for such a long post

Hi welcome to the forum . I had similar experience to you they were reasonably confident the mass they saw on mammogram was not cancer to the extent that my results appt was over the phone ( pre Covid ) they rang to say could you come in instead so I knew the news wasn’t good , really shook me up. Luckily I found this forum the next day and got lots of comfort and good advice talking to people who understood what I was going through .I had very similar cancer to you hormone positive similar size and WLE . I did find my underarm very sore for a while after op much more painful than the surgery on breast . But I’ve had a number of surgeries previously and since and I have to say it’s been the one I recovered from really quickly , I was surprised there was not much pain at all after first 2 weeks .

The main issue with radiotherapy is the tiredness ,it hits you about halfway through and continues for a few weeks  after .If you have flexibility with your work hopefully you can work round that . The treatment and experience of being diagnosed with cancer can have quite an emotional impact sometimes more than the physical impact and often after you are out  the other side of your treatment  so please be aware of that - it’s normal to feel wobbly  . BCN has moving forward courses ( on line still I think still ? ) they  can be really helpful .
Please ask any questions here and as often as you need . It is all a blur in the beginning , they give you so much information and it’s like a different language !!  Always support and advice here , best wishes Jill  x
