New here, IDC diagnosed yesterday

Hi,

We were told yesterday that I have grade 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. So far I’ve had a mammogram, US and US guided Core Biopsy. On Monday I’ll be having a Vacuum Assisted Biopsy to find out more. We get the results from that on 12th March .
To say I feel numb and shocked is an understatement.
We are telling family and close friends but I don’t want to tell my 9 yr old twins yet. I’m still trying to get my head round it all.
Im sorry to read that there are so many people diagnosed. I wish you all well with your journeys getting through this.

Hi @ClareyLou

So sorry that you find yourself here - it’s a club we never wanted to be part of but this forum has been an amazing support for me and I hope it will be for you too. I completely empathise with the numbness and shock. I’m only three weeks on from my initial diagnosis and somehow feels like a decade ago, it’s like slipping into a whole new life - or rather living a bad dream. I can’t believe that less than a month ago I was living a completely normal (well, lockdown) existence and now this.
I found the period between initial diagnosis and full results really tough, once I had a treatment plan I felt on safer ground and I hope you will too.
I also understand how tough it is to tell people and especially kids. I couldn’t bear to be putting people around me through all this worry. My kids are 14 and 11, they seem to be bearing up ok - they sort of flit in and out of worrying about me, being very affectionate and then just carrying on as normal. It’s tough enough for them all at the moment anyway with homeschool so I think once they’re back next week life will at least feel more normal for them.

Do keep posting here and big hugs in the meantime.
