I found a lump at the end of 2020 and had lumpectomy, chemo and radio in 2021. following on from that in 2023 after my yearly scan they found calcification’s which turned out to be cancerous so had chemo again and mastectomy with immediate DIEP reconstruction.
A week ago I felt a lump where near where my original lump was, ive contacted my breast care team and have an appointment on Monday and im hoping that they will say its either cyst, scar tissue or fat necrosis but im worrying because of the location its right at the edge of my breast so dont know if they went that far when doing the mastectomy. not sure i can do another lot of chemo.
Totally get your concerns, it’s awful to find a new lump after we’ve been through this.
After my mastectomy 3 years ago I found several lumps and bumps months later. I hadn’t had any reconstruction and was flat. My breast clinic were quite dismissive and wouldn’t even do an ultrasound.
I think they felt it was just scar tissue or fat necrosis but I was so worried I went privately for a scan. It was all fine and was fat necrosis.
All the breast tissue will have been removed in the mastectomy so I think you should be reassured about that. Your further surgery with the reconstruction may have caused scar tissue. It’s definitely worth getting checked out. Press for further scans or ultrasound to get the reassurance you need and deserve but I hope my experience may help. In all probability it will be fat necrosis.
Sorry you are having to go through this again. I was diagnosed 2021 tnbc and had lumpectomy chemo and rads. My last mammogram they saw calsifications and did 3D mammogram and said they are happy to leave them. My next mammogram is this June. Could I ask what tests they did on your calsifications?. This is the second person I’ve heard that their calsifications was cancer again. You are just in their hands but I’m hoping they took the right action. I wanted mastectomy but they wouldn’t do it.
I hope yours all turns out ok. We never stop worrying about it do we. Fingers crossed for you x
They saw the calcifications at my 1 year scan and took biopsies again…they came back fine, when i went again the had spread and grown so they did more biopsies which came back that it was cancer. Its so hard all the worring. I keep thinking now that i should have gone for a full mastectomy instead of reconstruction so that everly little bump and lump i wouldnt worry so much. Fingers crossed that for you they are just calcification and nothing to worry about x
thanks everyone, I’ve had my appointment today and they said it looked like fat necrosis, the consultant radiologist then called me back in and wanted to do a second scan and scan my whole boob because of my history - where she found a second lump which again they said is fat necrosis/oily cyst. they took samples and said they would check them out but didn’t look anything sinister. Hopefully that will be the last of it. x
