Are you lacking specialist support after your breast cancer treatment? Would you like to receive more professional help in managing the emotional and physical side effects of your diagnosis?
If the answer is yes then you may want to consider joining our new interactive service for women who have finished their breast cancer treatment.
PROWESS (Promoting Recovery, Wellbeing, Equality and Support in Survivorship) is our new support initiative to ensure that women recovering from Breast Cancer receive the help that they need. If you join PROWESS you can expect to receive face-to-face sessions over a five week period starting in March.
The service will run in Deptford (South-East London) and is open to anyone who would like their concerns answered by medical professionals and trained volunteers. These sessions also provide the opportunity for you to meet others who face similar challenges to you.
Anyone who has finished their hospital based treatment for breast cancer in the last 12 months is welcome to register and come along, but sign up soon as places are running out fast.
The first session will be held on Wednesday 11 March 2015 from 10am - 2pm at Deptford Lounge and will continue weekly. To book a place or for more information, click here or contact Jennifer at Breast Cancer Care on 020 7960 3424 or email jennifer.finnegan-john@breastcancercare.org.uk

Just a warning to others, like myself that have tried to book a place on this new service. I have been advised that because my treatment finished two years ago I am not eligible to participate. This service is only offered for those that have completed treatment up to a year ago, which in my opinion is bit of a kick in the teeth to others who fall outside the post year mark .Please could breastcancer care ensure that any criteria for any new service offered is made clear from the outset? This would avoid any disappointment and time trying to book a place.
Is there any services like this provided in Northern Ireland?
Hi CANDY88
Welcome to the BCC forum.
I’ve attached a link to the web page giving information about services in your area. You can also email your local office for more information.

Hi, do you know of any PROWESS in Solihull, West Midlands area?
Thanks
this post just highlights my difficulty. There are lots of services in London, but try living in North Wales and accessing anything…i am glad that this kind of service is being offered because it is so needed but can someone please start something in North Wales that is avaiable to everyone.
Hi all
At the moment we’re piloting PROWESS in South London. We want to see if it’s something which helps in supporting women after treatment who are living in diverse or ‘hard to reach’ communities who may not ordinarily access support (a Moving Forward Course for example). We’re piloting the service throughout this year (ending in November). Unfortunately at this time, because this is a pilot, it is only being offered in South London. If we are able to show that it is effective & there is a need for such a service, then we can set about developing similar offerings around the UK. A decision will be made on this in early 2016.
I’m really sorry that we’re not able to offer a similar pilot in the North. You’re not the first person to have asked about this and it is something we will have to think about in the future when we’re developing pilot services of this kind.
If there’s anything else you would like to know about PROWESS then please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards
Ben
Hi again
I am posting a link to all of the services offered by BCC which do extend to many parts of the UK so I hope there is something you can access:

Just wanted to say that although I live within Greater London, in order to access this service it would take me 1.5hrs involving a walk, a bus ride, two trains and a tube journey!
So although on paper it looks like something I could go to by virtue of it being in London, the reality is it is no more accessible to me than if I lived somewhere else. My heart sinks whenever I see that the nearest courses to me (any courses not just BC ones) are run in London as it’s a nightmare to get to.
I’m not out of active treatment yet so something like this would not yet be beneficial to me but just wanted to show another take on the situation
